What does that mean? Why more solid academically than Whitman and Churchill? While not the only measure that's not what the test scores show. And well rounded? Whitman has solid athletics (certainly as good as WJ, not as good as Wootton), excellent debate, drama, music, newspaper, etc. Kids can get involved in whatever activities they want to be well rounded. |
PP here. I should clarify. I meant to say that I think WJ is stronger academically than Quince Orchard and more well-rounded than Whitman and Churchill. I did not mean to suggest it was better academically than Whitman, and I really don't know if WJ is better or worse academically than Churchill. |
QO is much better academically than WJ. |
Really? Why would you sat that? Based on what? |
Why would you say WJ is better? |
|
| Q O is a happy place. |

I have a few curious questions about Quince Orchard:
Can a child who is highly intellectual (basically a geek) and not involve with sports, pop culture, etc. be accepted at Quince Orchard or will they be teased? How does a GT child fit into the social environment at QO? Does OQ have a larger percentage of students who are disruptive and not really interested in attending college? How does the high level of FARM students effect OQ? How are the adminstrators and teachers? Are they supportive, provide great communication, etc.? Are the counselors great? Also, how involved are the parents at QO? When someone says that Quince Orchard is a better school than Wootton or another school I would like to know what exactly do they mean. What specifically makes QO a better or a happy school? Why would you select QO over Wootton for your child? |
| It's not all about test scores.. |
| I wouldn't choose QO over Wootton because of the answers to all of the questions posed by 12:52. QO is a fine school, but Wootton is better. |
Better at what? |
|
I am the PP who lives in QO and questioned the pp 's report that QO is better than WJ academically. For sure that WJ is not at the other three W schools level, but it still may be a bit better than QO.
Our choice was between QO and Wootton. We chose QO because it can give us a better house because it is cheaper to live in QO district than Wootton district. Also if you look at Wootton 15 years ago it was not so great. I figured since my son is only 4 by the time he is in high school, QO will be quite good. My prediction is based on all the fancy houses in Kentland and Lakelands go to QO. I think there is no doubt that Wootton is still better academically at this point. To the pp with a gifted child who does not like sports, Wootton is your school. But I think the culture at QO is quite good, so he will probably will fine there as well. May not have as many like minded kids though. |
| BTW, I think QO still very much a college prep type of high school with very involved parents. It is really only a notch below Wootton in terms of academics. It is closer to Wootton than it is to Gaithersburg High if you look at the family SES. |
| Wootton is an Asian magnet . If you are Asian you will love it . It's nickname even among its own students us wonton. Good at violin / math . Not good at sports. That's the deal for whatever its worth. Q O is your all American high school. Good at sports and as good as your kid makes it in academics. Never heard of anybody getting picked on, the kids are really nice to each other in general . Tons if school spirit and a cool location. |
| FYI, QO last month passed WJ in the top US high schools list, this is based on academics. QO is the most well-rounded, safe high school in the county. Anyone can find their place there. Principal is a great communicator. |
