Any opinions on the Inspired Teaching School ?

I would guess that relative to your typical DCPS, there are fewer FARMS, more white kids, fewer Latino kids. The mix of white/black probably comes closer to mirroring the city's current population than most DCPS.

Completely agree. I will take it a step further and wager that when the numbers are reported, the amount of FARMS will be amongst the lowest of any charter, not good as far as economic diversity.

Fewer FARMs can reach Brookland. Look at Yu Ying.

YY is not a good example. Many families farms or not have no desire for Chinese immersion.

Agree

YY has little desire to attract FARMS.

The previous statement has no grounding in fact-Yu Ying's higher grades have a significant number of low SES kids. It is discouraging that IT parents would at the same time admit that IT has a seemingly lower level of SES students than your average DCPS and knock Yu Ying for a similar pattern that played out in enrollment.

I don't know anything about YY- I'm sure they're great too. I just appreciate that IT has recognized this as a challenge and is committed to trying to serve more FARMs even though there are more than enough middle class families to fill their rosters.

Nobody is knocking YY. They are saying YY is not a desireable school for many families regardless of income so it's hard to compare apples to apples

By the same token, IT is not desirable to many families due to the lack of high quality language instruction.

Sure. Some choose to supplement foreign language. For some, it's easier than supplementing English or math.

This is an ITS topic, why is that relative. And "high quality" is debatable.

I agree with most of this except the black/white assessment. If the city is approx 50% black, this is not necessarily accurate. From my observation, the black makeup is about 30%. However, it is still very diverse.

Lower SES would choose KIPP over IT, IMO. Would not be surprised at all if IT ends up with similar demographics to YY, but for families who don't want Chinese immersion.

Definitely agree the lower grades seem to be more white kids, but I think the upper grades are the opposite.
