Rob Gonsalves. I love his work. |
| Lots of interesting stuff for different tastes and budgets here: http://www.20x200.com/welcome/find-art-banner/ |
The first one I looked at was interesting. Well executed with a surrealist bent, a unique way of seeing the world, though the emotional content was a little sappy. The second was similarly interesting. By the fifth one I found them trite. The guy appears to have one idea -- things that look like something else actually become that something else. |
| I really like this artist's work: http://www.akbutrus.com/ |
| OP, if you are such an art critic, why are you asking us for artists? shouldn't you know them all? |
Um...that is the artists style. That's his vision. I have seen artists paint almost the exact same thing over and over with only minor variations. If you look at say Salvador Dali...many of his painting are similar in style. There is diversity in it if you look at the whole collection together, but during certain periods of time its all very similar. From beginning to end is where you find the diversity. I am sure that Mr. Gonsalves has other work as well...but this is what he is feeling right now. You will find that with many artists. They have a style and stick to it. The style does evolve...but generally not from one day to the next. Perhaps there are artists like that, but I personally have not come across any....so this is my understanding of it. |
| check Romero Britto. Love his stuff! |

I don't think the OP knows what faux means (although I wouldn't consider much of the posted work here anything to rave about).

| Try to look up some area art fairs--the Bethesda one might have happened already, but I really enjoyed it last year. Even if you don't buy anything, it's fun to look at art fairs, and they often have live music. The First Fridays for the Dupont Circle galleries can get a bit crowded, but are a good way to see a lot at a time. Many galleries have websites so you can see if it might be worth going in person. Some stuff at art fairs and galleries is dark, but there is also a lot that isn't. Enjoy the hunt! |
Really? No me gusta! |

I'm a big fan of Claudia Hartley.

I LOVE Wolf Kahn, and if I had $10k to buy art, I would buy one of his paintings. (Disclaimer: I think that his paintings look a little garish on the Web - they are way more subtle and not as bright in real life.)

Is this what Bethenney Frankel gave her husband as a wedding gift, not this painting but this artist. Eeeek. I'll take my Mark Rothko any day. |
You are right, here is the one she gave him. It has a Beauty & the Beast, stained glassed quality. Fine for a Disney movie, but other than that - eh. I sure wouldn't hang it in my house, but to each their own.
