| Wherever I look it seems all of modern art is so tortured and dark. Can anyone point me toward some new artists (in the last 20 years) that are doing anything refreshing and bright? My walls are covers with tasteful family photos--I am so bored of them. I see a lot of faux Ikea/Pottery Barn style paintings in people's homes. I am so uninspired by what I'm seeing. Any websites with some interesting art to buy? Anyone? Anyone? |

Well, Joseph Craig English is definitely refreshing and bright. Don't know if it's your taste or not. But he's a local Maryland guy.

| I have gotten some cool pieces of art from ebay- go under "art" and then "direct from the artist". Some is awful but some real gems. Occasionally I have found something at the thrift store that just catches my eye. Also there are some great large prints at the georgetown flea market (vintage grocery posters, cuban posters, old ads). Maybe check etsy too? |
| Maggie O'Neil is a local artist with a bright/pop art feel. She just designed the interior of "Lincoln" downtown and it's awesome! |

22:19 again. I forgot Nancy Hammond who's really popular with the Annapolis crowd. Also very bright and refreshing.

Michael Borek - really cool stuff that would fit anywhere funky .... forget it if you are boring. |
I like it, but it seems a little bleak. What is our current art phase called anyway? Are we Post-Modern? |
| I think we are in the phase that it needs to be different, and not look Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel mass-produced. |
| Must all current art look like a screensaver? Or Sculpted Found Trash Objects? I will look at some your offerings--keep them coming, my walls are screaming for New Bright Things! |
Thanks PP, but I think I prefer more of an oil or acrylic delivery. I also love mixed media on canvas. |
| There was anAmerican- Ethiopean woman artist that was featured in the New Yorker a while back- she made a huge canvas for the Goldman, Sachs lobby entry in Manhattan. Not her exactly, $$$, but love her style of work... |
| try something by carol anthony - beautiful, special, not cheesy. |
Julie Mehretu and that work cost $5 million. But there are a lot of people paying homage....go to etsy. |

Soulful, emotional and creates an heirloom to be treasured for generations. Mark can be commissioned to paint a portrait or buy an existing painting from his gallery.
