So if you're tired of bacon, cupcakes and frozen yogurt, what's the next big thing?

I'm going with scones. The new royal couple is going to bring about a fad in all things british.

yuck, what a terrible name even if it has some history. Terrible for marketing.

Ditto crepes. I hope the cereal bars that they have on the west coast come to our area.

Yum. I like Fro.Zen.Yo because it's a "bar" too.

No crepes or scones! That's looking backward. There must be something new....

"Grown up" grilled cheese. I saw tons of it in San Fran. Macaroon's almost had a big trend, but it stayed in NYC and Seattle for the most part. I do see a growing mini pie trend, as well.
Noodles & Co just came out with "grown up" mac & cheese, so I don't think that will be too big since big stores are already producing it.

As for cool food things to do, the next thing on the rise is indie butcher shops/Charcuterie

In the baking world doughnuts seem to be on the rise as well, but I think it's been around the blog world a little too long, unlike the cupcake craze that got picked up rather quickly.

I thought bubble tea would be the next big thing, but it never really picked up in DC.

Chopped pecans in a small bowl mixed with a few tbsp. of blue cheese dressing and some garlic powder. Eat with a spoon. Yum.

Plain yogurt (I use Seven Stars Farms because it is THE BEST) mixed with a sliced banana, some dried cranberries and slivered almonds. Also yum.

Huge bunch of basil, a few cloves of garlic and a small bit of olive oil blended with my stick blender then mixed with mayo. I ate that slathered on toast for several days. Delish.

I'll post other oddball snacks I've had lately when they come to mind.

Yum! Thanks for sharing. Where do you come up with your ideas?

One of those opened in Fairfax about 2 years ago. I don't think it even lasted a year before it closed.

Um . . . hope you meant tsp. of blue cheese dressing?! Seriously, scarily fattening! About 160 calories and 17 grams fat in just 2 tablespoons!

Yeah, I don't mind things like fat!! I read an article a long time ago that said if you eat only non-fat foods, you have a harder time with weight issues because you never feel satisfied -- your brain actually needs the fat and is telling your body to eat more. So it's actually better to eat full-fat things. I've taken that idea and run with it all these years. (Please don't tell me if there has been a follow-up study contradicting this because if there is, I just don't want to know.)

The big thing for summer will be uniquely flavored ice pops/popsicles sold out of trendy food trucks downtown. After that, who knows?

I could get down with this. Or the crepes.

But seriously, who is sick of bacon? And cupcakes? The great thing is how well they go together - I could eat 3 meals a day of bacon and cupcakes! But I'd be willing to stick a scone or crepe in there also.
