My great grandfather, was a stealth Jew and married a Scandinavian woman. My cousins are all virtually translucently white. And not ironically, my oompa was a Nazi. They were cold horible people and I hated them. Every picture I have of my ooma, she looks as though is smelling a terrible bowel movement. She made the most delicious raspberry preserves I have ever tasted [not made of bowel movements]. She would make them during June in the summer and freeze it in mason jars and we would eat it all winter on her leaden homemade bread. The winter after her death, we ate it silently for months, never once mentioning her name as the juices from it ran down our faces. I still have a jar in the crawl space behind a closet. She was "not a Nazi", she would say, but she married one because she said: "they are people like everyone else." She would say horrible things like, "marry the Jew out of a person and give them lovely children" and so on. She barely spoke, but when she did, you'd wish you could unhear it.

Two. #1 is that my uncle was a crooked cop in the pocket of an Italian crime family in New Jersey. #2 is that my very Catholic, German grandfather was actually Jewish by blood.

My mother had sex with a man before marrying my father. She actually believes this is a horrible thing that must by all means be kept secret. Seems to have been no problem that another relative was a gun runner in Ireland. Go figure.

I don't look black, and neither did my Grandfather. I only questioned as to whether he might have an Italian heritage when I learned the "secret". It's not like I'm going to start claiming to be black or anything but I don't see it as something to keep hidden either, it's just interesting.

Interesting. Is he openly gay with the family? I can see why they would stay married, it actually makes perfect sense to me. My BF was a gay guy and we considered getting married, I know, complicated, but I met my hetro hubby and that never materialized.
