What would you think of a grown woman with "pigtails"

PP, Where I grew up, they were pigtails if you have 2 (one on each side of the head). A pony tail is one at the back and braids are braids.

(Oh, and I'm not the OP).

I do two because my hair has layers and if I want to get the side hairs into the pony, they have to be at the sides. I wear them low - at either side of the nape of my neck.

Who cares? I don't wear them into the office. We're talking about going to the grocery store or something!

This seems appropriate, because they're low. 2 high pigtails like a 6 year old would wear? That's just plain old weird.

Yeah, low is fine. I was thinking high on the head like dizzy Chrissy on 3s Company from the 70s

What would I think? I would think I am on the West Coast, in LA, SF, Portland or Seattle or any of the other cool towns and cities that dot that coast.

And then I would be temporarily really happy, until I snapped back to reality and remembered that I was in the most conservatively styled city in the United States. Yes that even includes Des Moines. We may have more money here to spend on St. Johns or Banana, but they take more chances than we do.

If you are in your late teens, early twenties, two pig/ponytails can be part of a cool alternative look. When I see someone who is clearly in her 30s or has children of her own sporting two tails, I think she has no sense of appropriate style. Especially if she has little girls, I think, oh no, she's trying to dress like her daughter. Desperate.

I've seen Jen Aniston in pig tails over 40 and didn't think anything of it.

To state the obvious...none of us here is Jen Aniston. She can get away with a lot more than we can.

I know a lot of youthful looking 30 and 40 somethings that could get away with it.

I think "Cute."

Depends on where the person is. Definitely not right for most offices, but on a weekend, at the park, it would be fine. Not my style, but fine.

Not for the office or nights out. But two braids work well for casual or sporty activities, especially if it is cold enough to be wearing a hat. I have long hair, and if I'm skiing or sailing, I need to braid it to prevent nasty knots from forming. Two braids means you can still see that I have hair (I do NOT look good with short hair), and they do a better job of capturing the shorter layers close to my face. So for me, it is a practical thing. And DH thinks they are hot in this context, too.

I think she's athletic and outdoorsy and fun. For some reason, two braids makes me think of a tough female triathlete.)

Hair is beyond her shoulders, but tied into two long pigtails.

Cute or stupid?

The pony tails would only be one aspect of the whole. If it fit well with the rest of your look, it may be cute. If not, it wouldn't.

Personally, I ignore anyone's opinion who makes blanket statements like "not after XXX age." Such rigidity is silly and ignores that even us "old" people (old on this board apparently is mid-late 30's and up, ridiculous in an of itself) can defy these so-called rules.

Yep, you pretty much summed up my thoughts, pp. Thanks.
