Wren or Ren

I know a male Wren and female Renn. If you want him to be called Ren, just name him that.

Only if your other child is Stimpy!

- another person over 40 who thinks this is hilarious

The boy named Wren in my high school years ago was called Sparrow by his peers

Wren is a gender neutral name. Ren is not really a name in English. I'd got with Wren.

Which spelling is better?

- Wren
- Ren

(Yes, a boy)

Lawrence (ugly) is a boy name. Wren and Ren are girl names. Do not do this to your kid.

Wren is not really gender neutral at this point. It's a female name.

Go with Ren, since it's a nickname.

pls no to either. Also, if it matters a couple trans kids we know go by wren/ren- seems to be a popular choice

But too much confusion about a boy named Wren and if he is named after Kylo Ren.

If you look at the Wikipedia list of notable Wrens, it's about 50/50. More girls are given the legal name Wren, but that's because people are generally more conservative with boys names. Looking at notable people with the nickname Wren gives you a better sense of how the nickname is used.

A wren is a small, cute bird. Like a sparrow. Please do not saddle a boy with that name.

Name perception changes over time though. Laurie used to be a common nickname for boys named Lawrence. Ashley and Lindsay used to be boy names. The historical list of people with the name Wren will not reflect contemporary attitudes on the name.

I don't even agree with the PPs on here that Wren is definitively feminine at this point. There was a male character on the show Pretty Little Liars named Wren, which wasn't that long ago. But I do think it's skewing feminine more recently.

The reality also is you can't really control your kid's nicknames. Once they're in preschool they will come home with variations on their name you never expected.

Go with Larry. It's so out and retro, it's cool.

Yeah, the old man names are BACK. Preschools are full of Alfred, Alfie, Maurice, Harold. Larry would fit right in.
