I think we can all understand the challenge of their situation. It's hard to make 2 or practice times, there are other things going on in life etc. If they are new to the team (sounds like they are) then they don't have a carpool situation figured out etc.

I'm also going to guess your Board said "Ok thanks for letting us know" and promptly moved forward with no change to anything.

What would you have the Board do?

Exactly what I wrote. Respond "Thanks" and move on. The Board's job isn't to fix things for a single family. The team rep could work with the family to find carpool options, or suggest someone else to talk to. It is not the job of the Board to be involved with this type of challenge for a single swim family.

We had multiple families try to join our team based on their club times and get upset that they would have to get on the pool's waitlist. They thought there was a cut the line policy for fast kids.

I fully support cut lines based on times. My impression is that good portion of pool boards probably wouldn't go for it given the sometimes adversarial relationship given the competing interests. I know our pool would definitely say no.

Why would you support it?

Our pool board has nothing to do with the swim team. Separate entities.

I can understand their challenge, but I bet this family wouldn’t complain to the travel soccer board that their different age kids couldn’t practice together. Apples to oranges I realize, but I always find it interesting that people have all these higher demands for summer swim team despite it being the cheapest game in town and run by volunteers. And then they justify their demands by saying “it’s summer swim, it’s supposed to be fun”, with complete disregard for the usually valid logic behind whatever thing they’re complaining about.

I had a parent talking to me about the best combination in his kids age group for Relay Carnival. We also have not even had time trials at this point. Probably jumping the gun a bit.

Same lololol

Our parent is trying to figure out the groups going to All Star Relays. Seriously.

The difference is that the family is a member of the pool (aka soccer field) and therefore may feel entitled to a different level of treatment.

Ding ding ding! Completely unrealistic expectations.

I don’t think it’s like this everywhere. Our team has been between NVSL Division 12-15 or so for years and it has never seemed very dramatic. The most drama seems to come when they have a good season and families worry the team will move up a division or two.

This could be because division coordinators are already asking team reps for names of volunteers for ASR. I know they asked at our division meeting a few days ago which led to a discussion about whether or not we have any relays likely to make it, and who might be on those relays.

Come to our team. You’ll be swimming A meets.

Dang! The entitlement runs deep with some parents.

We have had parents get mad about stupid stuff and refuse to volunteer at Time Trials in protest. It is incredibly childish and I am just embarrassed for them when they are talking about it on deck.
