Are we moving away from DC Native representation?

Transplants still voting in their home state can’t run for office So who cares?

With Kenyon as Mayor we would have JLG still on the council (fingers crossed) but if it’s the other way around, there would be no JLG , Kenyon, White and possibly no Trayon.

Who is our next generation of leaders? Transplants who want to take over the city with no understanding. Granted they have been elected, but not sure they truly understand the optics.

Are you planning on keeping these transplants from voting?

What a silly thing to comment. What I do know is a handful still vote in their home state.

What are you going to do when transplants vote for a transplant (that doesn't vote in their home state)?

For the OP - would you be ok with a white native running DC? Or does native mean something else to you?

Has a Nacotchtank ever run for office in DC?

I asked Brian to run. Not sure if he’s a native or not. But imo he’s better than what we having running currently.

When people say "DC natives," they're not talking about white people.

What about the peoples that the Nacotchtank eradicated before they expanded their territory here?

Anonymous wrote:DC is the land of gentrification. We're the only major city in America that's getting whiter. Developers buy homes from long time black residents, turn them into condos and sell them to rich white people. We don't call it gentrification. We call it "increasing density" but it's the same thing.

Yeah it totally sucks how long time black residents can offload their houses for a mint and move wherever they want. We need to stop the racism!

Maybe a rule that you can only serve in DC government if your family lived in Anacostia before 1965?

Grow up. It’s way more complicated than that.

People are tiring of the divisive idea that you can’t care about DC if you weren’t born in DC. Transplants don’t want to take over the city; we want to live safe, happy, healthy lives much like any human living anywhere.

FWIW, two of DC’s most popular mayors (Barry and Williams) weren’t born or raised in DC; but I suspect your comments are more about the people who are voting, not who’s getting elected.

McDuffie’s team has consistently pushed this idea that transplants want to take over the city and I know, at least for me, it put me off McDuffie.

My circles are a mix of transplants and DC natives, and most people in real life are more concerned with who is a good and kind neighbor, not where you were born.

How's the straw polling going for your oppo research, OP?

The op is concerned that the townie good ol' boys won't be in charge anymore.

The newest generation of Natives are no longer uniformly black. They are younger Millennials and Gen Z that are Latino, white, have immigrant parents, Desi, mixed race, etc.

It's no longer Chocolate City. It will quickly become Melting Pot City. The Council and Mayor's Office will reflect this within the next 10-15 years.

This may come as a surprise to many here, but DC was a majority-white city for the vast majority of its existence. It's only been since the '60s until a few years ago that it was majority-black.

Remember kids, it's racist when you leave (white flight), and it's racist when you come back (gentrification).
