Are we moving away from DC Native representation?

My family did. I’m white, and Anacostia used to be a white neighborhood back in segregation days.

When people say "DC natives," they're not talking about white people.

I always assume that when people said DC native they meant not a transplant from nowhere USA. I never thought people meant to make it mean a black person. That doesn't even sound right. So a DC native to me is someone who was born and raised in DC since at least the '80s or before. Or who has been in this area from the '80s to before.

So according to you, the thousands of children born in DC after the 80s who grew up here aren’t natives, even though this is the only place they’ve lived? Yeah ok.

You're basically living in the suburbs and really have no clue or concept of what the city really is all about or needs. You've effectively decided to isolate yourself from the real city. Other than that, yea, you should be allowed to run.

I realize you're just trolling, but some people probably do think this way.

I’m not trolling and I don’t think they should be excluded for real. But yea I don’t consider them to be true DC people with a real and broad interest in the city either.

What if you are a DC native living in W3. And you’re Black.

Not a race thing.

So no Black native Washingtonians living in Ward 3 get to run? Because they have no real concept of what the DC is all about?

According to you

And you are from where? And living where?

I don't care if you're black, white, or green or whether you've lived here a week or 100 years. If you're living in Upper Caucasia it's because you've chosen to live in the bubble part of DC that's always been separate and you're not truly vested in the city. You might as well live in Arlington.

Great. Got it.

Where are you from and where do you live?

They’re a biracial offspring of 2 college educated parents who moved to NoMa 5 years ago from Columbus. So much cred

You couldn't be more wrong. But, again, it's not the race that matters. We're EOTP, have been here plenty long, have three generations currently living here, have kids in the public schools (no, not "JKLM" or whatever silly elitist acronym you use) and some of us actually work for/in the city. We count. You don't.

EOTP counts more than WOTP? Explain that to us like we are 10.

All of the people on my WOTP block work in the city. Do they count, or not as much? If not, again, explain your work

Lots of people work in DC but don’t live here. They don’t count either.

I was born in D.C. 50 years ago, and my father and both of his parents were born here, too, and my kids are going to the same middle and high school their grandfather went to. Have lived east of the park and now west of the park. I think you’re probably not being entirely serious, but if you are, your argument is ludicrous.

You have essentially left the city.

Well of course they can’t run for office in DC if they don’t live here! Now you are just being silly.

Yes, I can see why this is the case, because obviously I don’t feel any civic kinship with any other residents, I get my municipal services from another jurisdiction, there are no kids at my kids’ public schools who live anywhere else in the city, I don’t pay local taxes and I never go to any other neighborhoods at all. You totally nailed it.
