Red line closures this summer

Estimated time is 45 minutes just for the shuttle bus each way..doubling many commutes.

But if you're at Bethesda metro station, and want to get to Friendship Heights metro station... that doesn't take 45 min, right?

We were told they were “thinking about it.”

Department of Education sent out an email today saying no telework due to summer redline closures

Their agency head is a nincompoop. Not surprising.

Op, I wish you the best and hope you get some telework. But last summer my agency was affected by a month’s worth of Green Line closures from Southern Ave to Naylor Road, and we were not given a single hour of situational telework. It added more than an hour to my commute each day to take the shuttle, but this administration doesn’t give a sh*t about us and our work-life balance.

Ps, I’m a fed.

45 minutes is the full shuttle distance from start to finish. I would guess more in rush hour and less off peak but the shuttles will also run less off oeak. I am guessing my commute from Rockville will go from 1 hour to 2 each way. But parking and gas would be $20+ each day so??

I don’t recall any agencies allowing telework last summer when the other side of the red line was shut down…

When the red line was shut down in Silver Spring and other stations before covid, there were no special arrangements at my agency. Many commuters started taking metro bus to work (the buses were quite packed), and others used the free shuttles that were in place specifically due to the closures to get to the nearest open station (which I think was fort totten). The shuttles were coach buses, not metro buses, and actually ran very frequently.

There are no metro bus options for ne (Rockville). I have looked.

Even if it only takes 5 mins from leaving your train to the bus wheels moving (which seems unlikely) and then another 5 to get off the bus and on another metro train,(which seems even less likely). You are already lost 10 minutes not even starting to count the bus crawling through rush hour traffic.

Well, of course it's going to be slower. I don't think anyone is going to tell you otherwise. I'm just telling you that the eastern part of the redline dealt with this before, and we managed.

Well of course I can add two hours to my commute a day.. How dare I consider that an issue!

If only there was a way where people could get their full work day in.
, not clog the roads will extra cars, but have to hire extra child care...hmm let's try to think.

It’s going to gridlock Bethesda traffic more than it already is. Sucks not only for the commuters who usually take the red line but also for everybody else on the road if people drive instead.
