Red line closures this summer

But it has frequently been available to those who ask. OP should not expect an announcement telling people to telework for months, OP should ask to telework on a case by case basis because she would otherwise take leave for the day due to commuting issues.

If OP can’t figure out an alternative option for getting to work, they can waste their leave.

It's not about saving their leave, it's about getting the work done. I have a ton of leave. If my commute temporarily doubled I could take lots of half or whole days off to make my life better. But my manager's plans would suffer, which is his incentive to authorize telework.

How is this stance for red line closure any different than the current situation, where we are all working less due to full time RTO? People are using more leave than ever. Management plans suffer. Same case as red line closure. The end.

Ugh I think I'm going to drive and park at forest Glen all summer

My guess is many people will do this. I wonder what hour parking fill up over there. I hope the East side people are aware they may be disrupted too.

At my agency, employees impacted by track work got telework prior to 2025, but no longer.

Talked to an NIH person who is allowed to stay home for the shutdown...but sounds like they are pretty loose on it there in general

Could be worth researching options on the various parking apps. Sometimes monthly rates can be reasonable especially if expand your search beyond the garage at your particular building. Driving in this area is generally awful, but could be OK in the summer.

Time to figure out the bus schedule.

The actual research scientists working in labs cannot work from home, PP. The supervisors who write grants, sure. But when you're dealing with cultures, cell lines, live model organisms, you've got to be there onsite. No one is allowed to bring a mouse home and run a PCR in their kitchen. Most NIH workers will be impacted by the red line closure, so it makes sense that the few they can have working from home should be allowed to do so.

Does anyone have a link to the planned station closing schedule?

DH is a scientist with a lab but he does not need to be in it everyday. He works from home at least a day a week.

Definitely no telework in this era. Lean into flex schedules and take the telework available

I'm renting my driveway for $500/mo. I don't use it all all and someone left a note for me asking. I live in a neighborhood that's a 5 minute walk away from the metro

Not a fed but will be so miserable. There’s not enough parking garages downtown to accommodate this. I’m taking vacation for 2 weeks and will be out of town at meetings another week….and trying to figure out what else I can do!

My east side redline coworker is changing his schedule to come in extra early knowing parking will be tight over there.
