Thoughts on WashU ED Pre Med?

I also have a premed at a top school. My best advice is a school where they fit and will be happy, land comfortably in top quarter, and have close access to research, clinical, and shadow opportunities. This will make a long arduous path the least cumbersome and set them up for success.

How hard is it to land in the top quarter at Wash U?

I think its a solid plan for ED1 with those stats!

How could you know this? DI is brand new coming up next year. No history to make this comment.

Ask your IEC or CCO. WashU used to track DI a while ago, too, and stopped. Your counseling team should be able to guide you here.

They used to count it 4 years ago, then stopped. And now they are again. This isn't rocket science and is something you would know if you'd taken a moment to search (before you accusatorily post as a reflux).

Btw, your style is recognizable to all of us - you don't what you're talking about, so sit this one out, grandma.

Please tell you’re a child.

WashU is a top school, good grief. One can be in the top half (3.75+) from WashU and get into at east one MD school in the US no problem.
Top quarter at washU opens options to T25 med, ideal for certain subspecialties because residencies for these specialties prefer students from nationally known tertiary care centers.

Look up the pre-test optional SAT range from fall 2020 and see for yourself. WashU does not have significantly different distributions of actual students on campus since TO began. If your student fairly easily had an SAT with no extra time at or above the 75th%ile, and they are focused and put effort into their classes, they have a decent shot at being top 1/4 for BCPM GPA and overall gpa.

I know that, kids from my child’s Ivy get in with very low gpa’s in the scheme of things. I was simply making the point that it is a good strategy for happiness and contentment on a difficult path to not have to fight for grades and opportunities at every turn.

If he cant get into WashU ED1, he wont get into Emory ED2. Make sure hes okay with being rejects from all 3.

Not true.

EA is new at WashU this fall, due Nov 2, decision Dec 31. Best of both worlds, previous years WashU fills 60% of class in ED1 and ED2 rounds. Demonstrated interest is now tracked. Low 1500 is at the lower end for those reporting. Redo or TO. Have a hook why WashU in essay.

Thank you all! I appreciate the thoughtful answers.

NP will applying EA to WashU give a slight boost vs RD?

Really? They outright said they don’t track engagement at all during a presentation we attended a few months ago.

Emory is harder to get into; how is that not true?

we are glad your kid is there. Just stop. You turn people off from Emory. WashU is still harder to get into and ranked higher than emory.

They claimed in the previous CDS that DI is not considered to make them sound more friendly to underprivileged kids. I’ve always thought they may secretly consider DI anyway.

You think they are reporting DI doesn’t matter but it really does? 🤦‍♀️

I also cynically think that schools who officially say they don't track DI, secretly do. Reason for my suspicion stems from clicking on their emails, where "http://mx.technolutions.com" (I might be slightly off with the URL) popped up with each click. Whether they use such information in admission decisions is unclear, but they have the information.

^^ "popped up" means appeared on the address bar for a split second and then replaced by the school webpage. Not a popped up window.

The school announced this month this will be tracking DI for the next cycle.
They were notorious for tracking demonstrated interest up until 4 years ago....then they stopped. It maybe created problems with enrollment management, so they are going back. Certain other top schools do track DI too (Dartmouth, Northwestern, UChicago)....so it's not that unusual.
