They probably had low IB families zoned go and therefore lots of seats to open up in the waitlist? |
Yes, 5th grade at SH is substantially harder to lottery into than BASIS for 5th. But you can try for LT and basically guarantee Watkins or JOW for 4th. You just need to be willing to move your kids earlier. |
Sorry, should say *6th* at SH. |
Yes, for BASIS in the last few years, kids roughly had a 50/50 shot at it, maybe a little less. SH last year was about 1/3 and it sounds like the wait list is a lot longer this year, and perhaps there might have been fewer spots on offer. Will be interesting to see the numbers. Of course, it all depends on which number your kid gets in the lottery in either year. |
| Basis once you factor in the summer waitlist movement accepts almost 2/3. 6th grade OOB space at SH is about 1/3. |
Correct, it seems DCI did not match all applicants from my son's 5th grade feeder class this year. |
Don’t worry. The few feeder kids on the feeder waitlist all got in last year. |
I would worry. This class is much bigger than last years class. |
Yeah, A friend with a 5th grader at MV C8 is #9 on the waitlist for DCI 😳 |
They will get in. Circle back in August and you will see. Maybe even sooner. |
6th grade DCI family here. I was expecting class sizes of 23-25 kids when my kid started this school year. Surprisingly, his classes are much smaller like 15-18 kids. I don’t know if it is because of the level he is on with his classes. But they can easily add a few more kids, no problem. Yes, they have a set number of seats for feeder kids and they of course have to say that’s if there are x kids over that number, they are not guaranteed a seat. But there is definately wiggle room and DCI looks after their feeder kids. Lastly, they can increase their numbers without having to go thru any approval because they were very forward thinking when they wet to the charter board for approval and got approved for more seats than what they needed for the feeder schools. So don’t stress out or worry about it. The feeder kids will get in. Last year, the feeder kids on the waitlist all got in by May I think. |
| Hardy made a lot of waitlist offers but I am not sure what the yield was. I think by then a lot of people had made other plans and/or decided to skip the rush hour commute from the eastern side of the city to Hardy. |
It is because of the change in high school feeder with McArthur. More families not continuing onto Hardy from elementary. Families EOTP not taking the spots doe to the horrendous commute to end up at a pretty poorly performing high school with MA |
| OP, not to snark, what metrics are you using? Iready and Cape? Do you mind sharing your kid's scores? Are you talking about 600 score in Iready? |
I anticipate you will get off the French waitlist at DCI, as they usually have about 15 French spaces that do not go to students from feeder schools. If your student has not been in a language immersion program, then DCI will track them into a Phase 1 beginner language class, and they will not be eligible to take other classes in the target language until they get to the Phase 3/4 intermediate language level. I highly recommend DCI. It has been a great school. |
