Is the US military weak?

Iran is showing nine of that matters. You just need hoards of extremely cheap drones that can be deployed strategically to keep much stronger opponents at bay. It is a cost calculation they easily win when they can make a drone for a few thousand dollars while we need missiles that cost a million dollars each.

Taking out top leaders is less impactful when they have a decentralized leadership.

Billions of dollars of the most expensive fighter planes, aircraft carriers, and missile systems are neutered if all it takes are dinky rockets and a never ending supply of cheap drones to bomb Achilles heels.

Modern war has changed. Big expensive and lumbering military forces are so 20th century. Iran and Ukraine are showing all you need are enough drones for 1/1000th the cost to wage asymmetrical warfare effectively.

We should be less focused on ridiculous expenive bombers, missiles, and naval fleets, and more on aerial drone swarms, drone fleets in the water, and AI controlled drones for coordinated swarm strikes. It costs a fraction of the price.

I’m going to guess Iran thinks it matters.

The US and Israel no longer have air defenses. Our navy is force to stay 1,000 miles off shore. The US senior and junior leadership is RWNJs who think we are fighting for the second coming of Jesus. The US military and Israel drop a lot of bombs but fail to get results.

Go cheerlead some place else.

The military keeps hitting targets. They are reaching their benchmarks. You want them to fail, but they’re not.

And yet they can't get the Strait open. So we're all sitting here super impressed.

Keep dreaming. Iran is not Iraq. It’s a huge country with over 90 million people and a huge economy (despite the sanctions). But go on with your wishful thinking.

When they can’t sell oil what happens to that huge economy? Who will lead the country? How long will the next leader live?

Why can’t Iran sell oil? Starting to look like it’s the world against Israel and their obedient little doggie, Trump.

Why are we worried about 20% of the world’s oil not getting through the strait?

Oil is going through but it’s Iranian oil. We have lost. We can pay reparation by taking the money we normally give to Israel and give it to the Iranians. The great thing about that is we can put an end date on the payments. It should not take that long to decommission the gulf bases and cut ties with Israel. The oil will flow unless Israel attacks.

This is a military loss. Let’s cut our losses and move on.

We’re going to take over, or destroy Kharg Island.

The US isn't going to take over Kharg Island. They'd be sitting ducks.

What benchmarks? The tonnage of bombs being drop? How about the objective of opening the strait? The US military by every matrix has fail. The US military has failed president Trump. Hegseth needs to purge the generals.

There is such a thing as a pyrrhic victory. People who think the US is winning, go look up what this means..

Wait - let me educate you - it means that while we can tangibly bomb Iran the country to hell, we can't defeat Iran. The military can only destroy the enemies infrastructure and take away their ability to shoot back at you. Arms kills. But any and all of that does not guarantee victory in the meaningful sense of that word. Victory is about defeat and victory is about taking away the ability of another to continue fighting, in all manners. Using money without wisdom will not defeat most enemies.

I'm going to guess that Iran knows about Vietnam (and Afghanistan).

We are great at making expensive weapons and saying we are the best.
Iran has been sanctioned almost for 50 years and have a better drone that costs 40k and ours cost 100million.
This is pure wealth transfer from taxpayers to weapon manufacturers.

And do what? Help the Iranians load oil or are we going to take another 3.5 million barrels of oil off the world markets? The Iranians can destroy the SUMED and Abqaiq pipelines. That is 2.5 and 7 million barrels a day off the world markets.

ITA. Don’t expect people here to recognize the success of our military. You are correct - they are actually wanting the US to fail because their hatred of Trump far outweighs their love of country.

That makes Oil prices to go up and countries like Japan get their oil from there.

Trump's begging for help to get the Strait open. Bombing a country doesn't make a military victory.

It was a successful business model: Make unproven weapon systems, sell them the world over at exorbitant prices. American profits and jobs, yay! The caveat being this only works in peace time. Instead our tv cabinet fell for that pitch and believed they were invincible. Now they've proven themselves wrong, and even if we get out of this, we can't go back to selling billion dollar junk to our allies.
