Is the US military weak?

Anonymous
How can a country like Iran run circles around the mighty USA? I was always told all that money we spend on defense was to maintain the strongest and best military in the world, yet look at the disaster we are watching now. Iran can hold off the US with some dinky rockets and a large number of cheap drones. We can't evem send in our mighty navy into the straight of Hormuz without risking losing very expensive ships to cheap drone attacks.

So is the US military weak and overrated? Yes, I'm sure we could pound Iran into glass if we really wanted to, but strategically it isn’t always possible to do that. The US military seems to be built for outdated styles of combat, and a style of combat that is ridiculously too expensive. How have they not replaced expensive aircraft carriers with cheap drone fleets, or responded to Iran's cheap drones with our own cheap drone swarms rather than blowing $5b a week on missiles they can't keep enough of? Has the US military become obsolete and massively overpriced now that Iran and Ukraine show how you can battle way larger and more expenive opponents for a fraction of the price? For how much money we pay, the results currently seem very underwhelming.

We have terrible leadership and a weapons pipeline that prioritizes fat contracts and shareholder value over utility.

I don’t think that we are weak, but we spend far too much money for what we get. Sure would be nice to spend some of this money on Americans.

My very limited understanding is that an offensive war taken millions of miles away without any real objective is kind of hard to win. Defensively, our advantage is that Canada and Mexico or the sea are the only entry points. But yes, war has changed (see Ukraine) but again, we have a CIC who wants to go back to battleships.

UK already went through this and while they were out imperializing the US was building itself and the economy. China is now the US and we are UK. Why are our tax dollars not able to go to healthcare, education, infrastructure, etc? But we have the funds (no we dont we are borrowing) to wage war because of "pre emptive" strike, supposedly.

They say that generals always fight the last war, and its the same with military industrial complexes.

We would totally dominate a war from 2015. Its just that a lot has changed since then, and it might take a generation or a solid butt-kicking for us to get up to speed.

Warfare has changed in the last 5 years. We aren’t weak, but we are behind in how battles are fought.

But here’s the thing, when your opponent has a lot less to lose than you, they can do anything. We stand to destroy our entire economy over this war and Iran knows this. We have a lot more to lose.

People here are ridiculous. Iran no longer has air defenses. Their navy is destroyed. We’ve hit their weapons factories. We killed 50 of their top leaders on day one. The new leader is on death’s doorstep. The last mile is always the hardest. People here WANT America to fail. It’s either tragically sad, or a psyop.

So, if things are going so well for the US, why isn’t Trump wrapping things up and getting us out of there? How do you think this ends?

Keep dreaming. Iran is not Iraq. It’s a huge country with over 90 million people and a huge economy (despite the sanctions). But go on with your wishful thinking.

The US and Israel no longer have air defenses. Our navy is force to stay 1,000 miles off shore. The US senior and junior leadership is RWNJs who think we are fighting for the second coming of Jesus. The US military and Israel drop a lot of bombs but fail to get results.

Go cheerlead some place else.

Aren’t we a couple of weeks into a 4-6 week operation?

When they can’t sell oil what happens to that huge economy? Who will lead the country? How long will the next leader live?

Why can’t Iran sell oil? Starting to look like it’s the world against Israel and their obedient little doggie, Trump.

The military keeps hitting targets. They are reaching their benchmarks. You want them to fail, but they’re not.

Why are we worried about 20% of the world’s oil not getting through the strait?
