Is the US military weak?

It is time to start firing generals and admirals. This is embarrassing.

You don't seem to understand the chain of command. The military outlined exactly what all the risks were. But Trump and Hegseth chose to ignore the military's warnings and launched this breathtakingly stupid war anyway.

I was always told all that money we spend on defense was to maintain the strongest and best military in the world, yet look at the disaster we are watching now. Iran can hold off the US with some dinky rockets and a large number of cheap drones. We can't evem send in our mighty navy into the straight of Hormuz without risking losing very expensive ships to cheap drone attacks.

So is the US military weak and overrated? Yes, I'm sure we could pound Iran into glass if we really wanted to, but strategically it isn’t always possible to do that. The US military seems to be built for outdated styles of combat, and a style of combat that is ridiculously too expensive. How have they not replaced expensive aircraft carriers with cheap drone fleets, or responded to Iran's cheap drones with our own cheap drone swarms rather than blowing $5b a week on missiles they can't keep enough of? Has the US military become obsolete and massively overpriced now that Iran and Ukraine show how you can battle way larger and more expenive opponents for a fraction of the price? For how much money we pay, the results currently seem very underwhelming.

You can't make money with cheap drone.

ITA. Don’t expect people here to recognize the success of our military. You are correct - they are actually wanting the US to fail because their hatred of Trump far outweighs their love of country.

The US has failed. Oil is not flowing, the Iran has crippled US air defenses, no “regime” change, Iran is actually working on a nuclear weapon, Iran is using solid fuel ballistic missiles, the US port facilities since the gulf are wrecked, US bases are wrecked, Israel is getting hammered, etc.

You watch too much porn war. Blowing up a $5,000 pickup truck with a 1.2 million dollar missiles from a plane that cost $33,000 an hour to flies is not winning.

+1. I mean, it's Iran. It's not about beating them silly. You judge it by impact. A top tier team should whip the shit out of a mediocre team. The faster, harder, easier it is to do, the more top team it is. For all our bravado, we are not doing really that well....

We killed 50+ of their tier one leadership on day one. The U.S. President plays golf whenever he feels like and holds rallies. The cabinet goes about there business like every other day. It’s business as usual for Congress.

Iran’s navy is completely debilitated and ours is off their shore launching attacks.

Iran’s air force is crippled, as well as their air defenses. We own their skies.

Iran has drones, but we’re flattening their military industrial complex so they’re losing the ability to re-arm. We’ll find their drones and bomb them.

You know whats crazy to me about your statement. You seem to think the only people capable of military strategy and planning are Americans.. white people only likely.

Iran has been planning for this for decades. They have 4-5 backups for all positions. We will likely see even more of an extreme leadership. We removed people who were actually willing to come to the table. And now we will have unknowns.

Iran has been around for 2600 years.

Well, their planning seems to have fumbled on the idea that their own population would be helping the opposition locate their leadership to execute them remotely.

You seem to believe the Israeli hype. All that is US intelligence signal intercepts being feed to US AI that is given to the Israelis. They get in their US planes, stand off a 100 miles outside of Iran and fire US missiles. These are guided in by US guidance systems.

The Israel can’t even beat Hamas in Gaza. You think they can win a fight?

The President and the Pentagon fired a lot of their most qualified war fighters, and have surrounded themselves with "yes" men. And then angered most of our former allies with tariffs.

How did they think this was going to go?

The US weapon system are a very poor value. Could you imagine if we had gone up against the Chinese? Total a$$ kicking. We would have lost 2-3 aircraft carriers.

It’s time to retire the aircraft carriers.

They have also redirected billions defense money from actual deliverables to stock buyouts. Literally just throwing money and giant defense companies with no return.

Who is running the country? It seems like Weekend at Bernie’s right now.

You're talking about America right?

Remember that every piece of material that Iran damages is a destruction of the wealth of USA taxpayers.

It's not just physical defense, it's hitting Americans where it hurts.

It’s doesn’t help that we have a third string management team.

US ammo shortage worse than you think

https://www.wsj.com/opinion/the-u-s-ammo-shortage-is-worse-than-you-think-97096193?st=ZpEq4K

Who'd have ever guessed that using 3 to 8 patriot missiles costing $1M each to shoot down 1 Iranian drone that costs $7k is entirely a losing proposition? It is like the Department of War learned nothing from Ukraine over the last 5 years. US has to come to grips with the fact that large and expensive naval fleets anchored by aircraft carriers and super expensive fighter planes are a thing of the past. They cost too much. Winning the drone swarm battle is how modern warfare will be won. Drone swarms in the air and sea where each one costs below $5k.

Won't happen. Too much money involved. You don't have to sink it, just knock out the arresting cables and tower.
