"My one staff asked to work from home that day. I said no, then said if a reason maybe we cover for you."
You have staff?! |
Ha ha. We had to tell our staff to come into the conference room in person for our once monthly all office meeting. |
Make up a reason to let that guy go |
| This is why I 1099 everyone. If you don't come to the meeting, I don't pay you. |
I can’t stand people that are too stupid too even tell a good lie. |
Wow. How many men are this these days I wonder?? |
| Its pretty normal for meetings to be on zoom with everyone in person. |
I’m pretty laid back and only have one in-person meeting a week, despite all of us being in office 100% (I’d love to grant telework). The CEO wanted to meet each person and our team is small. What I don’t get is all the anxiety people have about in-person meetings now. People also space themselves way out at the conference table. Like 2-3 chairs between each person. I hate presenting at meetings, but the only way I got better was just doing it over and over. |
I don't get this, tbh. Yes if I'm alone at my desk I can attempt to multitask during a meeting, but if being in person is so important (WFH is over at my employer), it's nicer to get up from my desk, walk around, and see humans. Doing virtual meetings with the people in your physical office is really stupid. |
We're 100% in person but nearly all my meetings are virtual with people in the building. Employer got used to the higher productivity of WFH so we're all slammed, grabbing a bite during a meeting or booked back to back with no time to actually traverse the halls. Basically we have the bad parts of being in person - commute, and random drop-ins when you're trying to work - with the always-on work culture of WFH. People are burning out. Management's solution was a pizza happy hour after 5 (lol, no thanks). |
Why |
VA is and at will state..no reason needed |
We've had to push back on the always on work culture for concrete logistical reasons - for those of us with kids or long/specific public transit commutes, we can no longer stay two hours late to meet with folks on the west coast, nor can we easily get back to work after a doctor's appointment. Yeah, it does mean less gets done. |
I pray you consulted with an attorney about this. Worker misclassification is no joke. You can't just 1099 someone and then treat them like an employee. |
| But companies often prefer these workers over gen X and make gen X middle managers be in office while giving in to these requests so you get what you hire. |
