I don't know why they didn't wait until they had enough snow on the ground to announce a closure. This is just going to confuse people.

Sometimes I think MCPS just doesn't listen to meteorologists. It's going to snow heavily in a few hours.

Literally every other district is doing the same thing. But yeah, blame it only on MCPS. As usual.

Right! MCPS should totally buck every other school district in the northeast and open with no delays. I have a standing order at Compass coffee that gets filled rain sleet or snow and that I have to pay for (expense). No way MCPS should delay opening . I’m already out a week of coffee because of Taylor

Then I'm going to blame them all - they should listen to mets for once in their lives.

This is why we have such a messy system. Because the school system is run by idiots, which is inevitable when they have to hire from a local pool that is also apparently populated by idiots. As exemplified above. After all, we know for a fact that the meteorologists are never wrong, and it is totally easy to make a confident decision when you're looking at multiple forecasts predicting anything from 1" to 7" depending on 15 different factors. Stupid school systems!

My tiny Rockville street was just treated. Thanks City!

Makes sense to me. Given that this is an 'expensive' closure, they want to make darn sure. How many times have we thought there would be a lot of snow and then we wake up to a tiny coating on lawns yet school cancellations.

This signals to people to figure out alternative plans for tomorrow and also let's us sleep in til 9 before we have to wake up to see if we truly have to get the kids off to school.

Good call.

Is there precedent for calling at like…. 10pm or midnight?

I get what you’re saying but we’re going to know a lot more in a few hours. It would be nice if they’d let us know asap.

My kids are in their early 20s. They used to do it in the morning the day of.

Yes I remember that. We’ve gotten used to more notice and it’s nice. I’m not railing against MCPS by any means, just saying there’s going to be accumulation in a few hours or there isn’t.

It’s really coming down now and heavy wet snow. Hopefully no power outages!

The roads are very slippery. Just tried to go for a walk. Doesn’t look promising for tomorrow..

Taylor is busy filming his latest "rap" in a new video explaining that school will be closed on Monday. Premiers at 5 am on Monday.

Doesn’t he know that a two hour delay will ruin my day as a high-powered DC lawyer living Potomac? My clients need me to finalize sourcing a $100 billion deal that will let them send their kids to Harvard on a legacy status? If that deal doesn’t go through, or if we are just slightly delayed as is always the case with these deals, my client’s kids are gonna have to settle for Brown. Brown.

Your nanny and driver will get your kids to school.

I disagree. People don't read the blurb. They just see 2hr delay. If it changes to closure later, it's an irritating change in the plans they've already formed. It would be better if MCPS had waited several more hours to announce something that had zero risk of changing.

All meteorologists in the area had announced at least 3 inches of snow for Monday in the immediate metro, the accumulating snow to fall overnight. Capitol Weather Gang confidently predicted that most school systems would close, based on weather, because they're not in the business of sussing out the mind games that superintendents play with their families.

School closings and delays operate on a pendulum basis in this area, and are based in part on how much blowback schools got from the previous delay or closure, instead of being based on actual conditions on the ground. This is not a rational way to go about managing school systems effectively.

I like the early notice of a 2 hour delay.
I know now there are 2 possibilities for tomorrow instead of 3. And I don’t have to wake up at 5am to find out.
