If you're a parent, file a Complaint from the Public (CFP). Why should the school consult YOU for what they purchase? Even if you're an AI expert, so what? It's the school's decision, not yours.

NEWSFLASH: Public schools use public dollars.

Therefore, as a county resident and taxpayer, MY money gets used in these decisions. My representative in approving those purchases and contracts are the members of the Board of Education.

Uh, I think you're projecting...a lot. I don't belong to all of these school communities so what on earth would make you think I'm mad that Taylor didn't do what I wanted?

I made the post because I think Taylor/MCPS/BOE have burned a remarkable amount of political capital to burn and I genuinely wondered if this much friction was resulting in an erosion of support for him in the role.

As far as your claim that Taylor is "doing the right thing for taxpayers" vs pushy self-interest groups, I must say I'm stunned as that is the first time I've heard anyone claim that Taylor or MCPS are doing anything in the interest of taxpayers.

The man that single-handedly passed the biggest increase in MCPS operating budget in years is now a savior for the taxpayers? You really do live in Bizarro World.

You think the County Exec and Council don't use Taylor's and the BOE's recommendations as the basis for theirs? You can see that they do just by looking at the two.

No, I just remember when Wootton's renovation money in the CIP was zeroed out, when the Kid Museum got millions (enough for an annual pass for several grade levels) yet no one can seem to remember what it was spent on, stuff like that...

Trolling is trying to get the guy fired with flimsy examples. It's not like he approved, oh I don't know, 160 million dollars worth of electric buses that are driving up everyone's electric bills...

If a post on DCUM cataloguing parent and community outrage in the news caused by Taylor/MCPS's blunders is enough to get him fired, then I'm more powerful than I thought!

I guess you don't know what 'trolling' means? I wasn't implying you're powerful. Quite the opposite, in fact. I meant that you're whining about relatively minor issues without examining the underlying facts behind them.

For example, the whiner about the AI purchase probably doesn't realize that Volt AI is on GSA schedule and most other camera AI systems are owned by / run by / located in / administered by countries that do not have the best interests of the US at heart. A security professional would know that, but not some whiny parent on an anonymous blog. Stuff like that.

State governments can buy off GSA. If you knew anything about government contracts, you would know this. Also, to be on GSA (or even have a CAGE code), you must make numerous reps and certs, including whether you comply with Section 889 of the FY2019 NDAA (prohibiting covered telecommunications equipment and services from various Chinese companies like Huawei, ZTE, Hikvision, Hytera, and Dauhá).

It's unfortunate that you have no idea what you're talking about. While Elrich and the County Council have final say on the CIP, like the Operating Budget, Taylor and the BOE do make recommendations that get kicked over to the County Exec and Council to adjust.
