After watching the BOE vote to revoke the charter of MBLI today, it occurred to me that Dr. Taylor, MCPS and the Board of Education have managed to seriously piss off and offend a staggering number of school communities in one year.
Here's the list I have so far: SSIMS: Thanks to the unwelcome surprise announcement that he decided to shut down their school without telling them. Context: https://bethesdamagazine.com/2025/11/08/ssims-rally-proposal-school-closure/ Wootton: Taylor punked Wootton when he threw Option H into the Boundary Study mix right before winter break without telling them, and then ultimately rammed Option H down their throats despite an incredible amount of advocacy, including support from the entire City of Rockville, for months. Context: https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2026/01/wooton-high-school-community-packs-mcps-board-meeting-on-closure-proposal/ Magruder: The ongoing, crumbling state of their building has pissed Magruder off, starting with their crumbling auditorium and them being left out of the latest CIP despite having a nearly failed building. Context: https://bethesdamagazine.com/2025/03/12/magruder-high-auditorium-ceiling-crumbles-musical-performance/ MBLI: Despite consistent testimony at the board reinforcing that MBLI had parent and community support, and despite the brief existence of the school, MCPS has now voted to revoke the school's charter. Context: https://bethesdamagazine.com/2026/02/19/mcps-charter/ Muslim MCPS Families: MCPS's initial decision to offer up Eid 3/20 as a make-up day sparked mass backlash from Muslim families and also county government officials. In today's BOE session, they walked it back but I imagine Muslim families are still offended it had to get to this point in the first place. And they still need to fix this for the next year's school calendar that they approved. Context: https://bethesdamagazine.com/2026/02/19/mcps-charter/ That's a lot of people to piss off and disappoint at once. How sustainable is this for him and the board? Will he get pushed out early? |

I realized one I forgot already:
Arcola Elementary: With Roscoe Nix demanding to drop the "Innovative School Year" calendar, perhaps Arcola should have realized it would likely be dropped from their school as well. Nonetheless, like many school communities, they were caught off guard when Taylor announced his intention to stop the Innovative School Year "pilot" at Arcola as he unveiled his operating budget. A small but might contingent organized quickly to push back that they had not been consulted or given transparent benchmarks to indicate what MCPS might have been looking for to evaluate the ISY model. With today's operating budget passing, it's officially over for the ISY at Arcola. For your list
how about all the schools maybe it's all 211 who will have pilot AI machines at school entrances. No vote, no period for families to provide feedback. in a public school system that is funded by hard earning tax payers. A thread re: an ES and their emergency status last week during nearby incident at the high school. Wasn't the March 20 make up day because of that Supreme court decision against mcps? |
| Why not have co-supers to handle the myriad topics in MCPS? |
| They are also pissing off everyone with their decision on the calendar. |
|
Another one:
B-CC: The back-to-back serious security incidents at B-CC last school year pushed the school to the brink and ultimately led to the school's principal being removed from the school and demoted, especially after it came out that he lied on a teacher as part of a racism lawsuit that MCPS lost and cost taxpayers nearly half a million dollars in damages. | Sorry. This is the link that should've gone with the Muslim MCPS families: https://wjla.com/news/local/muslim-parents-students-upset-maryland-school-snow-make-up-days-eid-al-fitr-holiday-ramadan-montgomery-prince-georges-county-superintendent-board-education-non-instructional-mcps-closures |
| Where is the BOE? |
Somewhere in the corner, patting themselves on the back for being an all-female board and rubberstamping everything Taylor sends their way. |
| Great list. Should be expanded because there’s plenty more examples. |

SSIMS. You mean the school closing in 2031 because of roof leaks, outdated plumbing, and poor air quality so it can be converted into a "holding school" for other renovating buildings?
Wootton: More like "incredulous unrepresentative marginal segment" and the "city derelict in their duty to encourage MCPS asbestos removal within their city boundaries'. Magruder: Taylor doesn't control the CIP, the County Executive and County Council does. Blame them. MBLI: You mean Brenda Wolff (VP) and Grace Rivera-Oven (P)'s pet charter school that the Sup and everyone else on the BoE (to include even the student rep) voted to shut down? Muslim MCPS Families: thanks to that, everyone got school pushed to the end of June. Happy now? Arcola: you mean the one where 80 kids skip school in the summer because MCPS instituted the "innovative calendar" as a babysitting tool for parents? Go fish. Not sure why you think Taylor's job is in trouble. The only one I hope gets pushed out of their job early is the OP. |
Of the three schools, B-CC, Seneca and Magruder, which one seemed to be the most frustrated? I think B-CC is on board with it? I think Seneca might have been a little more skeptical? I'm not sure. |
Someone from Taylor's cabinet or the BOE is not happy with this post. Hit dog hollerin'. |
It's unfortunate that you have no idea what you're talking about. While Elrich and the County Council have final say on the CIP, like the Operating Budget, Taylor and the BOE do make recommendations that get kicked over to the County Exec and Council to adjust. | And RE: AI machines - go file a CFP. Maybe you can have parents vote on which photocopiers and pencils are purchased as well? |
