Outrageously hotel prices

Yes, we used to stay at some amazing hotels for a reasonable price, $250 tops. Now? It's all just Hyatt/Hilton types because they are the only ones that fit the bill of being pretty nice and still affordable, though depending on dates/events at desired location even those can get too high. College drop off was especially bad with everything that was not a gross motel over 500 a night.

In my mind, normal would be JW or an Opal brand. Not Ritz or Four Seasons. I find Hilton to be a tier below JW/Opal. Rosewood is an entirely different league.

JW Marriott is not normal. It is considered and is marketed as a luxury brand.

Perhaps the problem isn't the price. Perhaps the problem is one of what you consider "normal".

Well maybe beaches T&C. Last time I looked into going there, the nasty looking rooms were $20k for the week, excluding flights.

Just for fun, I looked for spring break. They have a 3 bedroom place left. It's $70k for the week.

The same place I stayed at for $450 just last year was $1100 and I was looking during the low season in the middle of the week. I tried many different weeks.

What I think is irrelevant. These are marketed as luxury and I would bet that the majority of the general population would consider them luxury.

Perhaps you need to face the reality that is your existence. You cannot easily afford the luxury lifestyle you seem to believe you are entitled to. Sorry.

I think most people consider Hyatt/Hilton as "normal brands". Mid market.

It’s the points. So many people use points to “pay” our sense of prices is totally skewed. I found myself going up to $400+ per night for a basic room (but points make it almost free?!) and questioned everything.

Maybe once we all start downgrading our CSRs things will normalize a little? My new $795 annual fee just hit and I can’t justify it.

JW and Opal are considered luxury tier, as much as RC and St Regis. Marriott Bonvoy puts JW, RC and SR as luxury

Are Ritz and JW the same luxury? Just looked at Breakers which is a place DH and I used to go prekids. It's $2k-$3k a night for spring break.
