Exactly. We don’t stay at hotels often but once our flight in Dallas was canceled. We stayed at a Doubletree across the road. They had us both at the free warm cookies. I let my son order room service and he was in heaven. Be a kid again and you’ll save a ton of money. |

I just paid $90 a night in Orlando for a week a mile from Disney World at a Springhill. That's fine for me.
I will note I have over 1,000 nights in Marriott hotels alone, and 400 of those in Ritz Carltons. So I know hotels. But there are still plenty of cheap options around. Hawaii for some reason has gotten crazy expensive. I personally don't get it. It's not that great, and 10 hours away. |
| I’m running into this with London right now, and just shocked how expensive these basic hotels are. Like, it’s London…not a top tier city imo. I’m paying $1,700 for two nights in the summer. The max 2 occupancy law in Europe is forcing me to get two rooms, upgrade to a suite with terrible sofa bed, or no-service apartment where quality can be seriously hit or miss. |
You're joking. Right? |
Ha ha WHAT One of the 3 or 4 most important financial capitals in the world but "not a top tier city" okay. |
| We go to a lot of the same hotels year after year and prices have definitely gone up 40% or more. The small hotel in Maine we used to go to has doubled over the last 5ish years |
Yes, it's called revenue management. And inflation. They price based on what people will pay. If nobody paid that price, they would lower the price. |
This. The place we used to go that was $450 a night a few years ago turned into $1000 a night at Christmas. It's still sold out, so people are paying it. |

Agreed OP. Lots of going off topic here but it's true, they have gotten really high really fast. I remember DH & I "splurging" back in the day for Four Seasons, St Regis hotels and it be 900-1K a night and now it's 2600/night to start. High time it's even more. I think it's also due to the highest end hotels (Four seasons, Rosewood) having to up their game with the demand of these customers. The competition with hotels has gotten intense and they need to offer more "experiences" than before. |
We do not see prices like that. We see more like $100-$200/night depending on brand and location. |
I love it when DCuM does satire. |
Tonight that same hotel is $160. I just checked. |
100-200/night doesn't even exist in the middle of nowhere. Obviously location dependent, but even places like Lancaster PA for a soccer tournament were 220+ for your budget hotel. Crazy! |

“The luxury hotel in an obscure city called London during a very high demand period is expensive. What gives??????!!!!!” - DCUM, probably |
