Who should the next Superintendent be?

If anything, he is too good in terms of policy changes, but he does not understand the stakeholder environment and thus helps authorize policies that please no one faction (eg, Equity coalition, Affluent down county parents, G&T parents) consistently. Thus we get decrees that are probably good for the long, long run (like getting rid of 50% rule or offering different magnet options), but very bad in the short run, primarily for him.

Taylor has been bad enough on weather closures that I will advocate for his dismissal, but other than that issue, I agree with your assessment.

Yes AND there are receipts that show how much he’s costing us in lawsuits and a million reorganizations of CO

banana republic

Sounds about right.

Grossly over entitled elite that real elites in a functional society don’t see as their equals.

An unstable middle class that is aware the current system doesn’t meet the needs of people like them, but still hope they were be the exception and be upwardly mobile.

A large underclass that is ignored unless they dare ask for change.

He'll be gone by September 2027, when his brilliant regional program goes into effect, and the school transportation system collapses immediately.

Hopefully whatever board is assembled post election will plan out a timeline to get rid of him, with a sufficient planning time so that we can attract quality candidates and not have to hire on such a short timeline again.

They never had to hire on a short timeline. That was a choice.

It wasn't a choice. It took that long to get rid of McKnight because of some holdouts on the board. That gave the board a short timeline on which to hire and we have Taylor as a result.

Never heard of Interim Superintendents? MCPS has used them before. No rush to hire.

OK, have it your way - they chose badly with Taylor: he doesn't listen; he always thinks he is right; he flips too many of the tables at once, and he is not paying attention to the logistics - of transportation; of staff preparation to teach ALL the new high school programs; of stacking his CIP budget like it was a set of dominoes instead of elementary schools, and having it fall apart; middle schools program change in 12 months; and elementary school closures (wait a short minute for this) - all in short succession.

I think we already have that rep. MCPS is always in the news for one scandal or another.

This highlighted sentence describes accurately my impression of him. He is so self-centric and arrogant enough that he can't negotiate on anything. And if he is pushed to the corner, he shows a pattern to shy away and let other people be the scapegoat (e.g., how he dealt with background check report). For the regional program, there was some good intention, and 3 or 4 region might be ideal to start with and manageable to gain positive impacts. His current way of segregation making me firmly believe he has a true MAGA-spirit in his heart: he wants MCPS to segregate further and throw away some "bad schools" using the regional model eventually.

I doubt it. I predict they will renew his contract and he'll be here well into a second term at least.

Let’s not pretend that the only problem is system itself. Parent attitudes are off-putting as well.

It must be so hard dealing with parents who don't want sexual predators around their kids s/

Or who are alarmed when their kids' school buildings are crumbling right before their eyes.

Even though he has years of systemic experience, I don't think his trial run-audition as a potential supe candidate via his Chief of Schools has made him a strong contender. He's struggled and shriveled in that role when put under the spotlight, which would only be harsher as a superintendent.

We've had a revolving door of superintendents since Jerry Weast. Lack of interested candidates has made the search very tough and that will only continue.
