| I think the girl should get to make this decision when she is older but I would not use the word trashy because I understand that there are different cultural norms about this. Latinas and Italians etc are more likely to have their ears pierced as babies than WASPS are, for ex. |
|
I think it’s weird TBH. The baby is not interested in having earrings. I’d worry that at 2 or 3 it would be a choking hazard. I wouldn’t want to deal with the hassle of earring when they are young.
To be fair, we also dressed our kids in comfortable clothes. No frilly dresses until they were old enough to want one. |
While the jury’s still out on baby-ear-piercing, only a truly trashy person would respond as you did. |
85% of women in the US have pierced ears. You think this is like genital mutilation? That is crazy. |
DP. Agree - comparing ear-piercing to “mutilation” is just cray cray. |
This is my view as well, even though in my white euro country there used to be small kids wearing earrings (not sure if it’s still done now) |
This, exactly. |
| Yes it is trashy and in poor taste. People will judge you for poking a hole in your kids ear before they even start kindergarten. IMO, kids should not get ears pierced until they are in middle school. |
If you’re cool with that are you cool with baby tattoos? |
| I wouldn’t do it until the kid was old enough to want it/ask for it but I don’t think it’s trashy or negative judge-worthy. Just different cultural groups having different traditions. I’d only be worried about the piercing catching on something or baby pulling it out, which wouldn’t be an issue with an older child. |
Wut? |
|
I don’t think its a good idea and its not my aesthetic for babies/young children but
I would not describe it as trashy. |
There are lots of things that are common among certain cultures but that does not change whether the practice is a good idea or morally appropriate. There are people among certain religious groups that believe blood transfusions are bad and they would let their kid die over getting one. Just because it is a cultural or religious belief does not necessarily excuse or justify the behavior. |
| What's trashy, is gossiping about an infants ears. |
|
I am ok with infant girl ears piercing.
Not ok with infant boy circumcision. Yuck. Horrible and primitive. |
