S/o: is it “trashy” of parents to have their infant daughter’s ears pierced?

Anonymous
I used to think so - - but then someone told me that Catholic families do this sometimes.

So I try not to judge.
Plus I think it looks sweet when a baby girl has her ears pierced.

I would just worry about the earring falling off and the baby ingesting then choking on it. 🙁

It doesn't matter what I think, but even if I don't like it, calling a baby trashy is trashy.

I expressed my view in the original thread (I am deeply offended by this).

But what does the rest of DCUM feel?

It’s our culture to have ears pierced as an infant. IDGAF what randoms on DCUM think.

People in some places say the same thing about child marriage. Culture does not make something morally justified. In the grand scheme of things child/baby ear piercing is relatively minor, but I would argue that any non-consensual body modification is unethical. A baby clearly cannot consent to ear piercing but a kid in middle school probably can.
