Is Springfield really “the bootyhole” of NoVa?

I think it is. Close anyway. From what I've seen. Over the past 20 years I've lived in Rosslyn, Clarendon, Falls Church, Vienna, and now -- as of this spring -- on the Occoquan River about halfway between Manassas and Woodbridge. And I've been just about everywhere in NoVA. The Dale City area of Woodbridge is quite awful, but I have an even more negative reaction when I drive through Springfield (which I sometimes do on my commute home when Waze takes me that way).

It's definitely a contender.

You live on the Occoquan River between Manassas and Woodbridge? And sometimes drive through Springfield? I definitely trust your judgement. /s

PP probably lives over on the side of Burke that you can get to from Woodbridge over the bridge by the marina with the restaurants. Not on the water but I think of that area when I read that post.

There are some interesting shops and restaurants, particularly ethnic ones. Is it a suburban hellscape? Yes. But so is lots of NoVa.

Good public schools? Are you kidding me? Lewis? Edison? Some of the very worst!!

I lived in Springfield in the 90's as a fresh of the boat immigrant, and attended Robert E. Lee (now Lewis). It was a ghetto then, and is much worse today. I studied hard, went to UVA became financially successful, and moved to McLean. You can't pay me enough to live there.

Compared to Woodbridge, the West End of Alexandria and Bailey's, Manassas Park, Route 1 Alexandria corridor, not really.

If there is a really big problem/backup on 95 -- which there often is -- Waze takes me off of it and routes me through Springfield. Not a weird route at all given the constant problems on 95. It's also the closest metro station to us, which I take occasionally.

Are you the person who bought the new house and hates her new area but touts the size of her house and allegedly massive HHI? If so, not sure if we trust your judgment. I don’t love Springfield but it’s fine. At least it’s a decent commute.

And everyone who lives in Woodbridge seems to say they life in or near Occoquan.

What? No. We definitely do not have an "allegedly massive HHI" and my house is small.

In terms of distance from DC it’s not as bad as some other areas but it’s generally not somewhere anyone aspires to live. West Alexandra and Annandale aren’t too far away and are better.

West Springfield is nice. North Springfield is a bargain. Central Springfield is rough.

This. When you say "Springfield" you are talking about a big area. You cannot paint it with one brush. Daventry and the area around the golf course and west (Huntsman area) are definitely not a "bootyhole". The South Run area is not a "bootyhole" by any stretch.

Is West Springfield bad in your mind?

Ah ok, my bad. There was a recent thread that someone started. She was trashing Woodbridge after…moving to Woodbridge.

I think it’s funny how some people in McLean think it’s Beverly Hills or Kalorama.

And agree with the poster who said the South Run area is beautiful.
