Soccer vs American football in HS

Anonymous
It's a thing to do because the games are often on Friday nights. It becomes a place for kids to hang out with friends in a semi-supervised way.

I enjoy watching college and some NFL football, but I do resent how many roster slots it takes up for boys' sports, because it limits non-football opportunities for boys. There is no sport on the girls side that has such large rosters. The fact that there is freshman girls field hockey but no freshman boys soccer makes no sense from an interest standpoint. It should be that the total number of teams has to be the same on the boys and girls sides, not the total number of participants.

You couldn't be more wrong about flag (and regular for that matter). Your circle isn't representative of the nation as a whole whatsoever. People started saying exactly what you are saying 10+ years ago and the NFL keeps raking in billions and continues to hold the top spot for professional sports by a large margin. The pipeline of talent apparently hasn't dried up by you and your circle choosing not to play **SHOCKING**

Gotta love those 3 1/2 hours games with 17 minutes of actual live action

And yet, far and away the most popular sport.

Well, please take a look at the average intellectual levels of the population and you'll see why

If only popular meant quality

This is a losing argument, lots of smart, dumb, leaders, losers, etc all love football. They're raking in billions not just from "stupid people" as you suggest.

Football is part of the culture. The traditions have built up over a long time. Like Thanksgiving and 4th of July. Parents did it when they were in high school. Pep rallies, cheerleaders, marching bands. It's glorified in movies. College football, too. Tailgates, rivalries. It's not about the game itself it about everything around it. Soccer is probably like that in South America.

Don't waste your time with him/her/them. I'm assuming they think they are the smartest person they know and make every opportunity to tell everyone.

99% chance nobody likes them much.

Vs what they call soccer here, never ever filling the stands/bleachers no matter how amazing the team is and even if they’re a contender to win the state championship?

Please explain this infatuation to a South American who simply doesn’t get it.

Not interested in specifics about how one is played with the hand and the other the foot, just curious what draws these crowds for a sport that spends 85 to 90% of time idle and has a fringe playing time of action.

Plus I see overweight and outright obese children in it just to make a human wall or crash into a running body and I can’t for the life of me understand how that’s supposed to be healthy. Subjecting a child to heart disease and diabetes before they turn 30.

Really curious. TIA!

If you're really a south american, then you would know there are no "amazing" soccer teams in this country.
Go rage bait in your own country.

Which parts of America is HS soccer and college soccer most dominant and revered?

That aside it is all the extracurricular activities and marketing that makes the event of football so popular. Not the game on the field itself

Take away all the pregame, halftime, post-game shenanigans, tv timeouts, cheerleaders, tailgating, commercials TV you'll see

You're not. The fact you have to tell everyone means you aren't as smart as you want them to think you are. I was actually making the point you probably aren't well liked. You're also probably fat and a loser.

Some of the women's clubs are quite good, actually.
