College and University Discussion
| My kid's ED schools haven't announced yet (likely by tomorrow or next week) so can't judge. |
| Middlebury was quite selective this year in ED; I know several who were deferred or rejected with very high stats. Interested to see how other top SLACs and Ivys pan out this weekend. Good luck to everyone. |
| And the top schools are need blind and free for most of America except the upper middle class to wealthy. Why pay $20k/year for your state school when you can go to a top20 for free? Historically strong students who weren't wealthy would just apply to their state flagship and not even apply to top20s because they were bound to be more $$ than their top public. Now they're all applying to Princeton too because it will end up being cheaper. |
| it's always "the hardest year" the year your kid is applying |
not true, some are you're not the expert you think you are |
Has Midd released numbers or stats for ED1? My kid made it (!!!!) but honestly I'm still in disbelief. |
| The demographic cliff hasn't really fallen off much yet, but people read articles and got their hopes up |
+100 There won’t be a noticeable difference until next year. These numbers are like 2024. |
Congrats to your child! I don’t think that they release any info until after ED2 results. Why are you in disbelief? |
It's actually a slow change over many years. No one will see a dramatic change in one year. |
2022 and 2023 were actually more difficult years than 2024. It’s not all raw numbers. |
I saw so many more Middlebury admissions than usual on college commit pages for my area (Philly). Maybe they prioritized admitting from different regions, or maybe it was just popular here this year? |
So you’re on here to gloat, then? |
Yes. That's why I said "2024." I have a 2024 and 2026 and I saw how bad 2022 and 2023 were with friends' kids/our school. |
| International kids will be back when Trump is gone. |
