College and University Discussion
| Are you seeing this too? My DS actually got into their school ED, but so many others that I was certain would did not. We were told this year would be easier but it doesn't seem so, at least not yet. |
| Most aren’t out yet so… |
|
All the selective ones are not released yet.
Easy, mom. |
| Yeah, most are not out yet, I think this year is going to be easier especially for demographics that took a hit the last four or five years. |
| I don't know... our HS college decisions insta page already has 20 kids decided. |
| Boys seem to doing well with LACs at our school so far. |
| Good schools aren’t out yet, so no way to know. This time next week we’ll have the real info. |
|
How can OP describe her conclusion as “anecdotal” yet true “across the board?”
|
| Demographically, things should start getting easier with this graduating class. Add the reduction of foreign students and the reduction of aid keeping out some international and poor students, your chances of admission have improved, I don't know why the improvement would be particularly concentrated in early decision at the most selective colleges. |
| An acceptance rate going from 7% to 9% is still a lottery… |
|
The selective schools will be selective as usual.
A few people will somehow be blindsided by this and call it a bloodbath. |
This, as the economy gets worse a larger and larger pool of applicants will target the top schools. |
Nope. It's next year's class (current juniors) that will reap the reward of a big drop off in applicants. |
How do you define “big drop off”? |
Because of the more generous financial aid packages? |
