What are you smoking? This forecast is calling for snow showers in the morning on Friday. That's it.

Umm yeah it’s calling for freezing temperatures and snow in the mornings. There’s also a special weather statement warning of icy roads and cold wind. I think that’s enough to delay or even cancel school.

I totally agree. Some people really don’t think 🙄. It’s not necessarily the amount of snow but the ice risk. Many kids drive or take the bus to school so it’s dangerous especially in the morning when there’s a lot of cars and risk of car crashes.

it's not dangerous. at all. just because ice exists doesn't mean anyone is going to crash. people around here search for reasons to cancel school.

Black ice is extremely dangerous. I bet your one of those drivers that acts all carelessly and goes wayyy too fast

Black ice. Wasn't that a Key and Peele sketch?

DC is one of the few places in this country that gets very little snow or ice, and yet is extremely well prepared for it. You and everyone else will be fine. I'm sure the city has already laid down six inches of road salt.

Hanover County is VA has already closed schools.

It's very unlikely DC will close schools because DC is unlikely to get much if any snow and the district virtually never *closes* school for just ice or cold.

However, the district often delays if we get ice or rain overnight and then it freezes, because of the danger this poses for students and teachers getting to school in the morning. It's hard to anticipate because what they usually do is confer with DC government on road conditions, whether buses are running normally (remember many DC students use public buses to get to school, since there are no school buses), and when city services believes the roads will be ready for normal use.

I would not worry about preparing for a snow day but I would definitely prepare for a delayed start as this is reasonably likely. When they do delays, 2 hours is the most common. DH and I both work from home tomorrow, so this basically just means we'll check for an announcement before we wake our kids to get ready for school, and if there's a delay they will sleep in a bit and get to watch a little bit of TV before school.

Yeah, the national weather service advisory used the word “treacherous” to describe the road conditions tomorrow morning. I think we’re looking at a delayed opening at a minimum.

There are three open houses scheduled for tomorrow - Langdon, Ross, and Whittier. Any idea what happens if there’s a delay or cancelation?

MCPS and FCPS got delayed and may get canceled tomorrow morning.

Did MCPS announce? The website still says they are monitoring as of 6pm.

They also did on Monday for no conceivable reason.

MCPS delays for a snow flake. Not saying it won’t be dangerous but they need to get better at dealing with adverse weather because they are constantly closed or delayed.

I thought all the weather was going to the south?

Alexandria is delayed and they are usually one of the last to fold.
