You must be new to this. They will not announce until 5amish. If they close

What about delay?

In recent years DCPS has announced delays anywhere from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm so it could still be awhile.

Why does DCPS have to be such a pain about this
Is it the Mayor who decides this? I don’t want to wake up at 5am to check if schools are closed or delayed

Its better than watching the school scrolls on the TV like we had to back in the olden days.

From looking at my past texts from DCPS they announced 2 hour delays in 2022 and 2024, both times before 11 pm. As others mentioned they sometimes wait until early morning to announce closures.

As of now, there is no delay, so there’s nothing to announce. The whole idea that they’re delaying school over a few snow showers is insane.

Some people still don’t understand that ice and temperature are a problem. Look at the weather app, theres a special weather statement.

Just set your alarm, wake up at your normal time and check then. If it’s delayed, reset the alarm for two hours later. It really isn’t that hard.

We would cheer when our school district popped up!

Some people can’t fall back asleep after they woke up once

If you're teacher hitting refresh on DCUM at 10 o'clock at night in hopes of learning this very second whether school is delayed or canceled tomorrow, you should consider quitting. You clearly hate your job. Do yourself and your students a favor and quit. Let the children learn from someone who actually wants to teach.

What are you smoking? This forecast is calling for snow showers in the morning on Friday. That's it.

Umm yeah it’s calling for freezing temperatures and snow in the mornings. There’s also a special weather statement warning of icy roads and cold wind. I think that’s enough to delay or even cancel school.

I totally agree. Some people really don’t think 🙄. It’s not necessarily the amount of snow but the ice risk. Many kids drive or take the bus to school so it’s dangerous especially in the morning when there’s a lot of cars and risk of car crashes.

it's not dangerous. at all. just because ice exists doesn't mean anyone is going to crash. people around here search for reasons to cancel school.

Black ice is extremely dangerous. I bet your one of those drivers that acts all carelessly and goes wayyy too fast

Black ice. Wasn't that a Key and Peele sketch?

DC is one of the few places in this country that gets very little snow or ice, and yet is extremely well prepared for it. You and everyone else will be fine. I'm sure the city has already laid down six inches of road salt.

There's enough salt on the roads to melt the ice caps.

DC has plenty of salt for the roads. Most kids come on foot, next most common mechanism is public transpiration. This is primarily a teacher issue, and I get that, but ultimately it should be based on the conditions at the location of the school with flexible leave policies for teachers coming from a county that declares an issue.

How can a school have "flexible leave policies" for teachers? What happens if all your students are there but only half the teachers show?

Then I guess waking up at 6:30, if that’s your regular time, and checking to see if it’s delayed is still better than PP’s complaint about waking up at 5 am to check. People on this site just love to complain and complain.
