Any one out there leave the Heights for high school?

Also, any feedback from those who left to go to other schools you mentioned? Prep, Gonzaga, etc. do your friends have any regrets having left?

Kids left for Gonzage, GP, PVI, St. John's, Richard Montgomery. Those are just kids I know.

We thought too many years of all boys was not good but appreciated it for the few years they were there.

They were exceptionally prepared for HS and I have heard the same from many others. I've even heard it from other parents/teachers/admin that the Heights kids are very prepared.

How do you feel the academics and vibe is at Good counsel? Were your boys prepared for the HSPT and did they get a solid foundation at Heights? Are your boys liking their new school?

They liked Good Counsel. I like that they worked side by side with very successful girls and had natural relationships with them not just dating relationships. I did not see that at the Heights. Their philosophy is you only date to get married. Boys aren't mature enough to enter into a mutually respectful relationship in HS therefore they should not be in one. I disagree; I think these mistakes at a young age are good learning experiences. Obviously, they don't control what happens outside of school. They don't encourage friendships with females. You can go back and listen to their podcasts about this.

they were prepared for the HSPT.

3-5 is great, lots of learning but active learning.
6-8 is intense and more so than is really necessary but they are super prepared.

Many were lifelong Prep/Gonzaga kids, so it was just the natural progression.

We are actually a legacy Gonzaga family, but my kids preferred GC.

No regrets I'm sure we could have gone back if we wanted to do so.

How long ago was this? I hear their waiting list is nuts. Also, do you think academics at GC/ prep/ Gonzaga are comparable with the heights? Better?

There will always be people applying and more people trying to get in than leaving. You have to realize the classes are small, very small.

It was about 8 ish years ago.

All the schools on your list have the ability to take extremely hard to not so much. I'd say that Heights has lots of students going to top colleges and kids going to community college or no college at all, and it's more socially acceptable than at GC/prep/Gonzaga

I wonder if they chose to stay or if they weren't accepted elsewhere.

Of course we don't know this specific situation, but realize there are 52 ADW schools that are applying to GZ, Prep, St. Johns, etc.

There are only about 15-20 applications in total from the Heights going to many schools (1/2 the families are in VA) and probably only 5-10 to GZ or Prep, where there are 80 from MD and 80% of the 8th grade class from the other schools. Most schools are going to get some kids in but usually not all.

The Heights is usually (unless it's some special case) getting most kids in. Just like MD gets almost their whole class into GZ or Prep.
