Any one out there leave the Heights for high school?

If so, where did your son go? Were they prepared for the workload at their new private and how did they do on the HSPT (if you stayed with Catholic) ? Is your son happy with his choice to move?

I know 2 families at the Heights. Both applied to other schools but in the end, they stayed for HS. One family applied to GP (dad was an alum there) and the other to Gonzaga (sports was a reason for this family (great baseball player)), but they also stayed.

Thanks for the reply. Hard to find ppl that leave but there must be a few out there!

People are probably worried it’s too identifying to post about. A community that size knows the kids who didn’t return for 9th grade and their details, and there’s no need to betray trust, even though there’s nothing scandalous

Good point! Just wondering if it was a good choice in the end

I know one who left for SJC because they were recruited for a sport.

Very few people leave because the Heights is awesome and no other school like it exists in DC. Sports is usually the reason if they do, which makes sense for some boys.

Totally. But it may not be a good fit for all. Wondering about those few students who transferred (usually to Gonzaga or prep) and how it’s working out

Would love to hear more about people's experience at the Heights.

Isn’t the Heights school for conservative weirdos?

My sons left for Good Counsel. We were told that about 20% of the class leaves.

Kids left for Gonzage, GP, PVI, St. John's, Richard Montgomery. Those are just kids I know.

We thought too many years of all boys was not good but appreciated it for the few years they were there.

They were exceptionally prepared for HS and I have heard the same from many others. I've even heard it from other parents/teachers/admin that the Heights kids are very prepared.

How do you feel the academics and vibe is at Good counsel? Were your boys prepared for the HSPT and did they get a solid foundation at Heights? Are your boys liking their new school?
