Also, the US News public school rankings and Georgia’s relatively cheap OOS tuition help.

But it’s still THE SOUTH!!!

Yes !!! Thank God !

Athens is cute, but it's still in a red state so not on the list.

They have 2 Democratic senators.

+2 These people posting anti-red state crap on every post drive me crazy. They live in a bubble and only want to be around others exactly like them. It is like they want their day to day life to match their instagram algorithm. God forbid they have to chat with someone that is different from them. -signed a life long, liberal Democrat.

I agree. Also, the best college tour I have been on and I have been on a lot with 4 kids!

Athens is awesome. Great place to go to school!

I get that kids want warm weather and big football, but there are a bunch of schools that tick those boxes so curious why Georgia seems disproportionally popular with mcps W schools (maybe privates as well).

OP, not sure I agree with you that it is disproportionately popular. It's a top 50 school. Yes -it has nice weather and a powerhouse football team, and people like that. It's in a cute town. Seems to be appropriately popular.
What schools are you confused about not being more popular than UGA?

And don't underestimate the appeal of seriously beautiful women.

Georgia is popular because of the HOPE and Zell Miller scholarship setup.

Money talks. This is largely for in state students

Clarke County voted more heavily for Harris than either Fairfax or Loudoun counties and wasn’t that far behind Montgomery.

The University of Georgia is so popular that it has experienced significant growth over the past 25 years, nevertheless it is still a wonderful place to attend & to experience college. Great weather during the academic year.

I love everything about the State of Georgia.

Sure, if you like being surrounded by MAGAs.

I got breaking news for you; whether you like it or not, we live in a MAGA country. I'm certainly not thrilled about it myself, but that's the reality. Wake up.

No, we don't. Only 23% of Americans voted for him.

There aren't many colleges that check all the boxes like Georgia does. Academically, it's a very good T50 school and solid in nearly every field. Athens is one of the better college towns in the US. It's generally regarded as a happy school with students who are social and outgoing. It has a great football team, which makes things exciting for lots of students and alumni. It's large enough that every student is going to find their interests and their people. The weather is good for most of the school year. And Georgia is known to give good merit aid. Students are generally pretty bright and motivated. Georgia is the rare school that is going to be appealing to the vast majority of 18 year olds today. Good for them.

Yes! Even though my kid (and my family) fell in love with another school, the UGA tour is still listed as the best we ever took!

Not really though. UF, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, and Clemson are more popular with MCPS. Only 16 kids from these MCPS schools: all the Ws, BCC, Poolesville, and Einstein, are attending UGA from the 2025 class. It is not disproportionately popular by any means compared to other schools.
