So many student holidays in FCPS, where do your kids go for the one day camp?

Camp grandma for my kids. I flew her in from NY to watch them Tuesday and the early release Wednesday.

OP where do you they go before or after school? That place will likely have camps.

If you are allowed to WFH then kids can stay at home and entertain themselves while you work.

If you have to be in office take the day off yourself and enjoy going somewhere (zoo, fall festival, museum, shopping) together.

Husband and I simply take leave.

And this is why I'd rather do these things on a random weekend than a day off school. Everyone feels the need to "do something" because they took the day off, even if they don't feel that way on a random Saturday.

Some of us do not have enough leave for that. Sigh.

And some of us have WFH agreements that prohibit caring for children during work hours.

Nasty unnecessary post, yes?

Thisbid off topic but simply being in the house where children are present is NOT the same as actively providing childcare. My supervisor has totally approved telework while my kids watch a movie in the basement. Between the ages of like 8-11 or so, kids can easily figure out something to do in the next room, but can't really be left at home alone for the entire day. The adult is really only there in case of an emergency. Actively providing childcare would be more like walking around with a fussy infant or monitoring your toddler that gets into every cabinet and drawer.

Our church offers camp on some of the days.

SACC doesn’t cover as much this school year, it seems. Just a heads up.

I feel like a teacher wrote this. It's so out of touch with working parents.

The whole DC area seems to have returned to the office and has no telework whatsoever. I do not have leave for the 10+ random days off in addition to regular Christmas/spring break weeks and also wanting to take a family vacation. Push all these random days off together and let us go on real vacations.

What school districts should move towards is each kid getting 2 days that they can use towards whatever religious holiday they'd like, without an absence being charged. And keep schools open and running like normal. Only major federal holidays should be celebrated, not President's Day.

This. The school system is working under the assumption that it’s 2020 and we can all work from home. Somehow teachers have more rights than other workers.

I agree with you but would just contextualize that FCPS has always been this disrespectful and dismissive of working families in less privileged sectors that couldn’t work from home. Oh you’re a nurse, sanitation worker, in food service or anything traditionally “working class”? Just WFH! Go to a fall festival!
