If you are allowed to WFH then kids can stay at home and entertain themselves while you work. If you have to be in office take the day off yourself and enjoy going somewhere (zoo, fall festival, museum, shopping) together.
And some of us have WFH agreements that prohibit caring for children during work hours.
Thisbid off topic but simply being in the house where children are present is NOT the same as actively providing childcare. My supervisor has totally approved telework while my kids watch a movie in the basement. Between the ages of like 8-11 or so, kids can easily figure out something to do in the next room, but can't really be left at home alone for the entire day. The adult is really only there in case of an emergency. Actively providing childcare would be more like walking around with a fussy infant or monitoring your toddler that gets into every cabinet and drawer.
