Are they crazy in Florida?

Florida plans to become the first state to end all vaccine mandates, including for schoolchildren, rejecting a practice that public health experts have credited for decades with limiting the spread of infectious diseases.

Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo, the Florida surgeon general, made the announcement on Wednesday alongside Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican. Mr. DeSantis rose to national prominence during the coronavirus pandemic, and over time he has espoused increasingly anti-vaccine views.

“Who am I to tell you what your child should put in their body?” Dr. Ladapo, a vocal denigrator of vaccines, said to applause during an event on Wednesday in Valrico, Fla., near Tampa. “Your body is a gift from God.”

He added that the administration would be “working to end” all vaccine mandates. “Every last one of them is wrong and drips with disdain and slavery,” Dr. Ladapo said.

The state would be the first to scrap requirements that children be vaccinated to attend school, among other rules.

Dr. Ladapo should lose his medical license. "Who am I to tell you what your child should put in their body?" Sir you are literally a doctor. Are you going to tell your patients to drink bleach?

I am not the type to say things like I would move. If I was at a phase in life when I was having kids, I would not live in a state that has this policy. Good luck Florida. Any sane people who care about their kids should try to move.

This is a result of the success of vaccines.

It’s been a couple of generations since people lived in fear of these diseases. We’ve forgotten the heartbreak and destruction they wrought.

I hope that everyone who supports this contracts one of those preventable diseases and suffers the consequences of their choice.

However, many innocent children will suffer unnecessarily as well and that's what makes them evil.

This. We think things won’t happen to us because they haven’t happened to us in memory. I think people are about to find out a thing or two about nature.

So should Bill Cassidy, the Senator/Doctor who voted to confirm RFK Jr, despite his clear misgivings which have come to pass in a way far worse than most of us envisioned.

I work in a school in FCPS and we can’t ask the vaccine status esp of those who are not legal, so it’s a problem here too. I recently had a child with the mumps.

This. We forgot babies and children dying in large numbers, iron lungs etc etc.

It's not your job to ask and single children out. However, the school should not be allowing anyone who is not vaccinated to attend.

There is literally no difference between Florida and FCPS then.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread...nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'". Isaac Asimov, 1980 essay titled "A Cult of Ignorance," published in Newsweek.

The young aren’t vaccinated. The old retirees have weak immune systems. Good luck everyone else?

Did VA remove the requirement? And believe me, we look down on those who use BS religious exemption too, wherever they are. Plenty of crazy granola parents here too.

Not mention the absolute devastation of Rubella on a developing fetus. It definitely won't be safe to be pregnant in Florida.
