House Cleaning Rates in 2025

We just got a quote of $160/biweekly for regular cleaning of our home. The lady said she will be coming on her own, and it will take about 4-5 hours. Our home is a little less than 2000 sq. ft., 3 levels, 2 bedrooms, and 2.5 bathrooms. We also have 2 dogs. Is this a reasonable quote? Should I shop around more to see if I can get a lower quote?

Thank you in advance!

Yes. This is good price. Your cost is wee bit high, that I suspect is mainly because of you having two dogs. Fur, dander, slobber, food, paw prints, nose snot on french doors + the dog smell. And she is providing the cleaning supplies. It is really hard to wash the rags if you have too much dog fur on it and it also takes a toll on the vacuum.

- I pay $140/biweekly for regular cleaning. No dogs, no pets, no shoes indoors, no smoking, no small kids. Mainly empty nesters.
- I provide the cleaning supplies because I won't want a cleaner using the same cleaning supplies (vacuum, broom, rags) that she uses to clean a house with pets.
- 3000+ sq ft. I make my own beds. 3 1/2 bathrooms. 4 bedrooms. Family room, study, living room, dining room, breakfast room, kitchen foyer. Wood floors everywhere. So she has to vacuum and mop. She cleans the blinds and windows (from inside) every time. Does not clean inside of fridge or inside of the oven.

I pay what the cleaner asked me to pay. $40 an hour is actually a very decent wage. It takes virtually no skill to do the job.

Feel free to make your cleaner the beneficiary of your 401K and life insurance for all I care.

Yeah, until the cleaner takes the steel wool to your stainless steel appliances or Windex to your upright piano. True stories.

Paying more for a cleaner does nothing to avoid what you describe. I am sure like any service there are extremely high end cleaners that probably charge thousands and know how to clean your Tiffany silver, your Steinway, etc...but a cleaner that charges $70/hour isn't charging that because they are more highly skilled than the $40 cleaner, but just because enough people will pay that in a certain neighborhood.

Was 2 women, now 1 because one of the women is now too afraid to leave her house thanks to ICE (this should be another topic).

How many hours are they there and do they do a good job? We have one pet and it seems like the main focus is floors and pet hair with no time left for anything else. We also run the roborock plenty in between visits. So not happy.

We pay $180 a week for a small McMansion no pets, but we’ve used the same person for 30 years.

A few years ago we used a company (you see their cars around here), paid $229 for every 3 weeks (looks like bi-weekly rate was $215) for 1600 sf, not dirty, no pets, and it would take two women less than an hour.

Said they would clean windows and oven during first-time deep cleaning, did not—
Said they’d mop weekly, and despite my emailing frequent reminders, often did not—
Said they’d use eco-friendly products, but just splashed bleach in bathrooms—
Did not dust, change sheets, or do dishes or laundry.
3 different women in teams of two, only one understood minimal English—

My MIL uses an individual cleaning person and pays a similar rate in cash for her 3600sq ft home so I’ll be going that route for this new house.

We pay 200 bi weekly for about 2800 sq ft.

You are paying $20 an hour? That’s just wrong.

What did they do? This is all standard stuff.

That is very cheap!! Where I live it’s $1000 plus a month

OP, it’s totally within normal range. I’d charge more for homes with pets bc of animal hair.

$155 / biweekly for a 3 bed, 2 1/2 bath on two levels. We actually have a third level with 2 more beds and bath that we don’t have them clean.

That’s just embarrassing. A house three times bigger than an average American house and you can’t pay them a decent wage?

I assumed it was 5 total hours (2.5 per person) which sounds about right for a house that is reasonably clean.

PP. I used to work as a cleaner. If you pay more, you’ll get a more intelligent cleaner, and a higher chance that they’ll turn their brain on when working.

How many hours are they there? Crew or one person?
