I admitted BASIS accepts kids in fifth grade, and that's it. That's hardly unusual. Go apply to Mundo Verde for 1st grade or Latin for 10th grade, and let us know how that works out for you.

Probably lots of people apply to BASIS just so they have the option but once they get in and realize what it's like, they realize it wouldn't be a good fit. Very few who get into Latin turn them down.

What on earth are you talking about. That's definitely not true. Name even one school that does that, with cites. LAMB and YY stop accepting kids at a certain grade but they don't require anyone to repeat grades.

Bilingual schools don't accept kids midstream because it would screw up their whole program. They're teaching science and math and art in a foreign language and that won't work if there's new kids coming in who can't speak. They don't force anyone out but some decide bilingual is not for them and they leave and they are not replaced.

Really? All of them? Because when you look at the MySchoolDC waitlist data it does seem that many DL and immersion schools are accepting new kids.

BASIS requires kids to repeat grades if they are below grade level, which the language schools generally do not do.

Is this rigging the system for US News or trying to implement a challenging, objective, nation-wide standard that lends itself well to superior college admissions? Rankings are meaningless, but if we’re faulting Basis for making APs a central part of the curriculum, I think we’ve lost the plot. I guess because attrition is high and the school will not backfill without some testing (which they are prevented from doing) many on this board will always hate it. If college readiness/outcomes matter to you, there are far worse options in the city.
