Emory vs UMich

You live in a world of ignorant absolutism. Wow. Wondering what school your kids go to. Sounds miserable if people think that way. Please share. You clearly think you are so smart and that your school is so elite.

STEM is not Emory’s strong suit

Very true but engineers who are not premed all do research during the semester, are in a couple of clubs and all the rest. At least they do at JHu, Duke, Michigan and Penn where my kids have gone or have engineering friends.

Emory and Michigan are quite different with regard to campus vibe and student culture. Visit both and decide.
You cannot go wrong with either as far as quality of education! If mine had wanted either we would have paid for either over UVA in state as they provide similar or better outcomes depending on the goal, and the peers are similar level. We know several who made either choice and have been happy

I agree with DDs friends that, Emory is more prestigious. But not by much, mainly because Umich is easier to get into. And will get even easier after ED. They also take a ton of students off the waitlist.

Emory parent but I would not recommend Emory for engineering. There are many many better options for that.

Emory is a far harder admit from our school (private). Michigan took everyone who stayed on the waitlist this year including my kid. Emory took
one kid and it was a top 10% humanities boy.

That said, I really prefer the culture and vibe of Michigan. My child up going elsewhere but it was a hard decision.

For engineering, you could just do it at in-state flagship. Why paying so much for an undergraduate? Save the money for her PhD program.

If money isn’t an issue, Wallace Coulter is one of the best bioengineering programs in the world. You won’t go wrong with that.

She's dreamed of UMich but after discussing with her friends and high stats classmates they're all pushing for Emory because it's higher ranked and way more prestigious. She goes to one of the Ws. I want to tell her to go ED for Michigan considering it was her #1 choice but the peer pressure is crazy. She is planning to go into biomedical engineering or chemical engineering with a backup plan to do premed.

I thought Emory only had engineering as a 5yr option combination program with gtech? that was the case when dd toured in 2022.

Same for us when we toured. Didn’t realize that the comp sci and engineering depts were relatively weak
