Not to be mean…but it’s too late. They offer any merit to try to attract top 10 kids to pick Emory. It’s still a limited group. So those kids are 1570+ SAT, 4.0, 5s on all APs, top ECs, etc. Your kid may be a good ED candidate for acceptance but not for merit. |
Waitlisted to both, stem male, 4.0/4.8/36act strong everything. |
Econ or Business with a STEM double, maybe stats or chem. |
I know Ivy admits who did not get merit at Georgetown or Emory. The merit really is for the very top students that they’re trying to lure away from the T-10. |
Your kid is not scholarship level at these schools.
They each only offer a very small number and they go to kids who otherwise would attend HYP. |
Above poster- also waitlisted at Georgetown. |
I know Ivy kids (mine own included--admitted to 2) who did not even get accepted to Emory, Rice or Vanderbilt! Mine was waitlisted or rejected at all of these. |
My kid was deferred EA GU and then accepted RD , along with 2 RD Ivy acceptances. 36 ACT, uw4.0, 5 AP exams (9). No Merit. |
I think Georgetown is the better choice for male and STEM applicants.
Georgetown- 1470 median SAT Emory- 1520 |
Emory is test optional. |
80% submit |
How is Georgetown a reach if the OPs stats are higher than the median? |
That GPA is too low for Georgetown. They like a really high gpa. 4.0/4.8 |
Not Rice with those stats. Good merit at Rhodes, Trinity U, maybe Tulane. |
Having higher stats than the median is not a significant advantage at a lot of T-25’s. It’s just one data point and everything else is important too, down to gender and choice of major. |
