I sometimes get nauseous when I don't eat before but I never throw up. It's not every time so I just push through. If I were to the point of throwing up I'd just eat something before working out. |
OP here. These aren't accurate assumptions. I'm a regular exerciser who does the same type of workouts, and have been doing them for decades. I definitely am used to vigorous exercise. The vomiting and the change in timing of the workouts is the difference. |
OP here. Yeah, it seems like something has changed such that I have to eat beforehand. I have been nauseous in heavy workouts before, but have never actually vomited. This is different because I actually run retching to the bathroom and throw up the water I drank. |

Low blood sugar can make me nauseous. And perimenopause made me more sensitive to low blood sugar in addition to not feeling well a lot. Working out hard really takes it out of me. So yes, follow your doctors advice and eat something before you work out. |

OP, I can't tolerate water on an empty stomach, so if you're drinking a lot of water while working out, that might be it. I have a small snack before my morning workouts and that helps enormously.
A protein bar is a poor recommendation. You need simple carbs, something to give you energy and get your blood sugar up. I make "cookies" out of mashed ripe bananas, oats, and chocolate chips; a few of those before my workout are ideal. But a plain banana is fine, too, piece of toast, whatever. |

DP - you don't get to decide who is an athlete and who isn't. So piss off. Moreover, the advice to eat simple carbs before a workout still holds, regardless of the workout - just less before a shorter workout than one might have before doing a very long, intense workout. |
