| Our CSL team said they'd do IM at time trials if there's time. Usually by the end most kids want to be done, so it would probably only be a few heats at most. |
They run a concession stand throughout the summer with swim team volunteer hours. So members can get snacks, drinks, etc. The team makes money off of it but also give the pool a percentage of the net. On Friday nights the team sells "Dinner on Deck" so families come after work and buy whatever the dinner is that night. It is a lot of fun. Sometimes it is burgers and dogs, Chick-fil-a, pizza, spaghetti night, etc. The team profits from it but it creates a strong sense of community. The team has done a lot to beautify the pool and the team generally does the bulk of the get the pool ready for the season work. Cleaning, setting up furniture, etc. I spoke to a friend at another pool and their pool culture sounds very similar. The swim team does a lot for the pool and in return the Board and the general membership are fine with meets, etc. I am floored when I hear of teams not being liked by their Board/Membership. I always wonder what is the team doing to help the pool? And I know some teams are kind of jerks. But part of being on a team/group at a young age should involve some sort of community service. |
| no IMs at our time trials. Why would you? They don't swim IMs in the A meets. |
Because there are so few opportunities to swim that (B meets = STORMS) and summer swim should be about the kids? |
Summer swim is about the kids. Because winter swim isn’t about the kids? What do you even mean by this? If you’re going to support an argument, do so without making asinine statements. |
| NVSL and we do IM at time trails. It is usually such a fast meet that adding IM doesn't make it that much longer. |
Because they swim them at Divisionals so you need some times. Not sure about other pools but we don't have them at every B meet. |
IM is swam at NVSL Divisionals - having an opportunity at Time Trials guarantees swimmers a time to use. We had one year that there was one opportunity in the season to swim IM at the B meet. This was prior to adding it to Time Trials. The reason there were no opportunities all had to do with storms. And the one opportunity was not ideal because they rushed it in because of impending weather. It is BS to have an event at the "Championship Meet" but not give kids a real opportunity to swim it. |
So your kid had an opportunity to swim at before divisionals? Just checking. |
Different poster, but yes, once chance at 10 pm at night compared to kids who swam their events 5- 10 times that summer. It’s so unfair if IM is your event. I don’t know about your kid, but swimming so late at night after multiple storm delays does not equal a best time - not even close. |
Agree. Since it is a Divisional and All Star event, they should have the opportunity to swim it at least once in the morning vs late at night. Plus, our B meet schedule is with pools several divisions lowers and there is usually no one to race against. |
|
We do them if there is time. We have a big team so depending on weather and the number of DQs we are usually hurrying to finish before the pool opens. But if time permits it's the only event that we run from oldest to youngest starting with the 15-18s.

NVSL pool that does NOT swim IM at time trials. Only B meets prior to Divisionals - were a large team. One of our B meets starts with IM as the first so it’s not 10pm. Maybe suggest that? |
IMs are my kid’s best events. Your issue is that whomever is coordinating your B meets is doing it wrong. IM should be swum first at a minimum of one B meet. If your B meets end at 10:00, you are also doing it wrong. A meet swimmers don’t need to take up space in B meets just to get a time in their worst event. Growing up if you placed in an A meet, you weren’t even allowed to swim in a B meet. |
Our coaches would not want that. They are looking for times for A meet and don't care about IM. Also the little kids need to go to bed. |
