Willpower against corporate food tricks

I'm afraid what worked was a GLP drug. That was the big effect. It eliminated the appeal of junk food-- an open bowl of chips in front of me simply didn't register. Kind of magic, that.

We are living in Aldous Huxley's nightmare, where the most effective way to fight back against the junk food industrial complex is with an expensive product from the pharmaceutical industrial complex. And then once we've lost the weight, we'll buy all-new disposable fast-fashion wardrobes. If only we had the leisure promised in Brave New World...

GLP-1 saved me, too. It's a miracle to no longer be powerless against the pull of ice cream and chocolate bars. Like you said - I can go to a party now and the most delicious cheese and crackers will be out and I'll be ambivalent. Prior to the GLP-1, I'd stand there and eat 20 crackers and then hate myself. I am on a miniscule dose now after losing the 20 lbs I wanted to, and I don't think I'll ever stop. I don't want to go back to constantly battling cravings.

Same. There is a huge container of my favorite candy in the breakroom. I had two pieces and have walked by it 2 dozen times this week without taking more.

It takes a lot of preparation in order for me to eat right. I’m a teacher and a single mom and I’m damn tired a lot of the time. The older I get, the more I feel awful when I eat junk. I used to eat plenty of junk and still felt fine but not anymore. I spend more time on weekends getting lunch and dinner together for most of the week. I’ve started IM so I don’t need to think about breakfast because I’ll just eat an early lunch.

Rationally I know that I should stay away from King size snickers bars. But they have bio hacked me.

More foreign agitators bashing America?

Perhaps you should reword things. This sounds like a troll attempt.

Willpower is a thing. Get some if you are for real and just having trouble asking/speaking in English.

I think if you are eating 80% healthy and exercising regularly, sleeping well, managing stress, etc, you are probably doing fine.

It's ok to want to eat something besides a fruit, vegetable, whole grain, and lean protein. Find substitutes for the really bad stuff, everything in moderation, etc. sure, but dont be a person who won't even have cake on their birthday.

Chew gum so you are not tempted to grab candy

At a party, carry a glass of water (or tonic with lime) so you don't have 2 hands available to grab junk food

At the grocery store, shop the permiter (dairy, produce, meats) and skip the aisles, which are full of processed foods

Remind yourself, "nothing tastes as good as thin feels"

Do you track your food? I think tracking helps me stay away from junk, because I know it doesn’t fit well into my macros/goals. Now that I eat less of it, I don’t want it, even when it’s right in front of me. When I want something sweet, I reach for Greek yogurt mixed with cocoa powder and maple syrup. When I want something salty, I love popcorn or roasted edamame beans. Maybe try finding healthier alternatives to the crap.

For me, intermittent fasting. If it's the wrong time I can't eat, period. Doesn't matter if someone brought in something delicious to work, I have to wait it out.
King size snickers bars are just something I would never purchase.
I am naturally mesomorphic/stout peasant type so I have to be vigilant. My tall mother can snack on chocolate and still look statuesque

Eat a full meal before your shop.

Diet starts in the grocery store.

Fill your news diet with info about how sugar poisons you.

If it comes in a package that has ingredients listed on it, don’t eat it.

I made myself a sticker chart. I segment each day into four parts. Each part that goes through without consuming the target food, I give myself a sticker. Yes, exactly like a five year old. It’s a little humiliating, but you sound determined to win the war against junk food. I see you, OP, and I wish you the best.

This is so very true.

I had a period when I didn't eat any sugar for months and months (other than fruit). Didn't crave it all. Then I started having a cookie here and there and now I want them all the time.

This is me, too. I have a tendency toward addiction and sugar is awful. I tolerate being addicted to caffeine (black coffee is the best thing in the world to me), but even things like dark chocolate or fruit juice do me in. Whole fruits are fine, but juices are just as bad as cane sugar to my body and willpower.

Is the 80/20 in terms of caloric intake or food volume or??

Work towards 90/10 based on caloric intake (90% of calories also have some nutritive value) and that’s plenty. TBH I don’t even think 80% is far off.

I laughed but that's not far off.
It's easy to know what not to eat by the list of ingredients and learning to ID the bad stuff, however there is still the plastic packaging most all food comes in now.
Microplastics!

I've noticed not many people chew gum these days. In the 1980s everyone did constantly. It's a great way to reduce cravings. Just avoid the sugarless toxic stuff obviously.
