You believe that Fairfax County is going to get the best price or be capable of ensuring the contractors aren't shirking?

McKay fixed American Disposal when they were missing pickups. So yeah, I do think that Fairfax County is capable of ensuring trash is picked up.

Fairfax County is going to replace the current county service with contracted workers. Those contract workers will take every opportunity to not pickup trash. Street "blocked" by vehicles, skip. One wrong recyclable in the wrong bin, skip. Trash can "overloaded," skip. I used to live the District and everything had to be just right or you were skipped.

I lived in Buffalo during a “sanitation workers strike.”

Just say NO! to this FFX proposal.

Literally the only difference here will be that neighborhoods will be assigned companies rather than 8 different companies coming down the street 5 days a week. I'm fine with this.

Other than the overhead of Fairfax County doing the contracting for you and the lack of accountability by adding a layer of indirection between you and the contractor.

My existing experience is that the trash companies ignore my complaints, but do not ignore the complaints I make via my County Supervisor, so no.

I live in an area with FFX county provided trash. It’s fine. They only come once a week though.

Same with the 3 commercial firms - at least on our street. But recycle and yard waste are not necessarily on the same day - depending on the specific company.

As someone who has lived in both counties and currently in Fairfax has a private trash company while watching multiple trucks from multiple companies drive on our street almost every day of the week, it seems like a reasonable idea to me. They should figure out how do it quickly though instead of in a decade.

NOOOOO.

We shop around and get the best deal at the time, managing to kerp our waste removal at $60/month including glass recycling.

Why is the Board of Supervisors getting involved in this?

The fee schedule presented there is just to pay admin costs . No one is getting trash pickup for $12/year.

The hoard of supervisors is cutting school funds so they can take over trash service?

Ugh.

Nope. This is a new program funded by fees from the taxpayers. You will pay Fairfax County. They will figure out how to pay the contractors for small percentage. A pinnacle of efficiency.

Your lack of knowledge and understanding is embarrassing.

Lived in DC with city provided trash service dealing with missed pickups, difficulty getting ahold of someone, and more. Moved to FFX county, now with private and it's a dream. Why are we messing with something that works well?

Meanwhile much more concerned about maintaining funding for after school programs in middle school.

Fairfax County government is far far more efficient than DC government.

I'm neutral on this as long as the price is the same or lower than what we pay now. We got a letter from our trash company asking us to reach out to our representative to oppose this change so must not be too bad for the consumer.
