What are the varieties of MLS academies?

Lot of outside academy's are eyeing DMV players. We have a lot of talent in this area but have a shitty local academy.

Texas, California, Arizona, New York, New Jersey, Florida has a lot of talent

No region has a MLS academy that can fit all the talent in their area.

Even with all the academies in London, they can't fit all the talent there on their rosters.
Same goes for Paris etc etc

If those talent rich areas are scooping up DMV players, does that mean DCU is full of super studs? DCU can probably fit more players from the area since they have no residency program.

DCUA recruits athletes, not soccer players. There are a few exceptions but for the most part if you are not an early bloomer who can run past people - forget about it. Other academies are taking a long term approach by focusing on skills and projecting where a kid will be in a few years. The latter approach is how development is supposed to work. DCU is just an awful academy and their actions this weekend show that the attitude matches the talent.

I'd love to know how tall your son is. You're point is valid, but also screams sour grapes.

Is that why they dropped the U14 team? To see who actually grows into the athlete they are looking for?

Why does everyone have to feel slighted to have a valid point. My son is 5'8". He plays for an ACC school. He was offered by DCU and passed.

I never knew the dc area had the best youth talent in the country

If an academy has a residency program, does that mean they have large numbers of kids per age group?
How does 35 or 40 kids per age group benefit development for each player?

As opposed to the other academies around the country recruiting physically challenged dwarves?

I guess the academies chose to use regular sized players at MLS Next tournament in Germantown this past weekend and left the tiny rosters at home.
All the teams had so-called giants

must be a tiny scoop... cause a couple players here and there isn't more than a blip out of millions

Yea sounds like you don't know much of anything, especially with that roster size comment.

The kid that went to Austin is very talented and I am surprised it took this long for an academy to take him. He is doing very well in Texas.

So if the academy across the country has the same cap on roster size even with residency program, then there's no difference in how many kids they can fit into an academy age group than one that doesn't have residency.

No. His point is valid. They love kickball players. Think SYC on steroids.

Exactly the reason why there were posts on here about ARL going to GA for girls side next year. They are promoting boys to MLS next.

That is simply not true. They are helping their players get placed in MLS Academies (not Next). Why would they need Next at all-- they don't? They already have better placement for MLS and college than the other local Next teams in this area-- and they aren't a part of Next.

Academies will take talent wherever they find it. They have the college connections too given ECNL. All in all, they don't need next for --it would just cause them to lose a lot of their players who want HS option...and next is now dilluted in DMV with all these random clubs now part of Next2 which feels a bit like EDP.

From the '09 group, they have sent one kid to Charlotte, two to Austin FC, one to New England Revolution, one to Philly Union, at least one to DCU (probably more earlier), and another kid is moving to Colombia to play. That's a pretty good track record of helping kids get to the next level.
