Arlington and MLS

Have seen 6-7 posts about Arlington boys players being scoped up by a variety of MLS academies. Does the club have a formal relationship with MLS to
enable this (via tryout or other pathways) or is this just coincidence?

They might have had one with DCU but I don’t think there are formal relationships.

That said, most clubs have coaches and founders with connections and reputations in MLS (and other leagues) and will go to bat for players who have potential.

Showing they have ECNL and still can develop boys to be Academy ready.

The comedy show never stops.

No, I agree, it’s really important that absolutely any conversation about soccer be turned back around to whether or not ECNL is better than MLS next or not. I don’t want to discuss anything else other than that one topic all of the time ad nauseam above all others. Thanks for keeping us on track!!

A coach has told me the same.

It's so desperate and exhausting...for the longest time I thought it was a high schooler but sadly it's a parent.

Good for Arlington, they had a lot of commits with their '25 graduates too.

I think MLS Next currently gives the best exposure for boys, but talented kids and a solid Club beats any alphabet soup.

Lot of outside academy's are eyeing DMV players. We have a lot of talent in this area but have a shitty local academy.

So how are all these Arlington players getting these offers from across the country (not DCU-- which would seem more clear cut). Is it the club who calls these other places and says they have the talent kids or does the MLS team come and watch them at practice or games? I am just confused how it works. I don't see other clubs doing this as much (mostly with DCU)...so curious if they are inviting MLS in or something to watch their players?

They scout them at big events/tournaments. They will reach out to your coach if interested and set up a trial.

Texas, California, Arizona, New York, New Jersey, Florida has a lot of talent

No region has a MLS academy that can fit all the talent in their area.

Even with all the academies in London, they can't fit all the talent there on their rosters.
Same goes for Paris etc etc

Yes those regions have talent, but they also have residency programs for exceptional out of state players, like kids from the DMV.
