Landing on an aircraft carrier is one of the hardest things you can do. An accident doing that is more understandable than letting a sitting plane slide off the carrier.

The plane didn’t just “roll off the ship” because someone forgot to tie it down. It was under tow by a tug when the carrier had to execute an emergency turn to avoid an incoming missile attack. The ship “heeled over” in the turn, putting the decks at a 10 degree slope. The aircraft and the tug pulling both rolled out the hangar door. Neither the tug nor the aircraft were designed to stay in place on such a slope.
